    Default Hair Loss

    Hey all,
My hair is definitely thinning and it is freaking me out! I feel fortunate that I do have thick hair, so I had some to lose, but...my loss is noticeable. I have read around some of the other threads on the issue and have realized I should probably stop blow drying! Any other advice on dealing with it?

    Thanks!

    Hi!
I think I did have a tiny bit of hair loss but I didn't really notice it until I saw some tiny little short bits growing through. Some people swear by taking biotin but I don't think it's evidence based. other people say to use black Jamaican castor oil massaged into scalp... this isn't evidence based either but I have had friends who swear by it. I use it to clean my face and its super thick and sticky so be mindful of that if you massage it into your scalp. In terms of other care I would say don't wash your hair more than twice a week if you can help it, don't use heat and maybe even use some lighter coconut oil in your hair for condition. A good haircut and def regular haircuts always help to make the best of it in the meantime. It probably isn't very noticeable, we can always see things more than other people. Also in other good news.... it is not permanent! This will pass. Congrats on your sleeve and becoming a healthier person :-)

I never stopped blow drying, washing, never took biotin, never did anything except eat how I should and take my vitamins. I too have thick hair and only noticed I had been losing by seeing shorter "fly away" pieces growing in. No big deal at all. A teeny tiny thing to deal with in order to be healthy and regular sized (a major life-changing thing!), absolutely NOTHING to worry about.

    Yep - what they said!
I did lose quite a bit but it was never very noticeable. I have thick hair and it just got a little thinner. I didn't take anything specially for it. Just my mutli vitamins and once I was able to get more protein in it stopped falling out. It's temporary and as Sraebaer says, a small price to pay for a healthy life from now on.

It will grow back in. The biotin will not stop the hair loss but it will help expedite the regrowth. I took it preop and still take it now. I also make sure to take all my vitamins and eat right, as Sraerbaer said.

I lost a bunch in the front, and its finally coming back (I am sporting a pretty butch look which I like).
It is also not the same as regular hair loss.
"Typically, chronic telogen effluvium hair loss starts two to four months soon after the incident which activated the condition, and lasts about six months. Brand-new hairs start growing promptly right after the hair drops out, however substantial telogen effluvium regrowth might not be observed for a number of months.Mar 28, 2015"

I've been worried about this too. However, I'm looking into supplements to mitigate it as much as possible!

I too lost hair ~ I have very fine, thin hair. I simply tied my hair back in a tail and went on with my day. I continued to wash, blow throughout. I did take biotin, but not convinced that it helped.

Sounds strange but take pre-natal vitamins prior to and after surgery along with Biotin. I noticed only a slight thinning but that was more due to age than anything

Relax. It's typically no big deal. If you have thick hair like I do you will hardly notice. The only reason I knew I lost some is I would see a few short "fly away" pieces. I didn't take any special vitamins, stop drying my hair, or anything.

Don't worry about your hair, get excited about getting smaller and healthier! I do always find this question funny; would you rather be large forever and not have to worry about a little bit of temporary hair loss? Not me!

Avoid hairstyles that pull on the hair.
    Avoid high-heat hair styling tools.
Don't chemically treat or bleach your hair.
Use a shampoo that's mild and suited for your hair.

Also, you do not need to comb wet hair. When they are wet, they are heavy and you also pull them with a comb.
