Nurses or doctors enlighten me please. (No one else needs to bother reading). My mom is in the hospital for the 2nd time in a week with dizziness and weakness.
Why is it you see the doctor once in the morning ONLY. So yesterday mom saw the doctor who ordered tests that were done by 9 am. She lied in bed all day, no IV fluids or anything. I ask what's going on and they tell me the doctor will be back tomorrow. I ask why she is just lying there, and they say she is weak. I ask how she will get stronger in bed, and they say she has PT and OT. Well PT walked her a few feet, and OT walked her to brush her teeth and did a few arm exercises, those to see she hadn't had a stroke. So the PT and OT time totaled no more than 20 minutes in 24 hours. I'm afraid to walk with her myself because I don't know how those gait belts work.
When the nurses changed shifts I overheard something about pneumonia. Well it it's that, shouldn't it be treated instead of waiting for over 24 hours to see the doctor again? And why aren't the patient or family told ANYTHING EVER? If she just is there to lie in bed, wouldn't that be more comfortable at home with her home health nurse? Or would that be because the hospital wouldn't make the big bucks?
She is 91 and scared to death. Actually she would much prefer death over this. Rant over.
And my new exercise program is sitting in a chair all day long.
