    Default Red Meat when ?

    Hello,
My dietitian didn't say don't eat red meat but didn't advice as well. I'm entering my fourth week, i always ate white meat, fish and eggs at my main meals. I tried red meat last night and i only ate 10-15 gram chewed really well and also it was really soft. After 5 minutes i got really disgusting feeling under my middle left ribs, constantly felt that pressure there, i walked home like 100 tour for 20-25 minutes, then it stopped bothering me. Red meat really scared me. Also i got that bad feeling when i ate fish( but i know i ate that fast that night) but i ate red meat really really slow. Idk what happened. Anybody lived this ?

First of all, my instructions were not to start red meat until week 6 after surgery, but I know all surgeons have different rules.

Yes, any dense meat at first is difficult. Don't worry, it won't last too long. I remember after my first few bites of a chicken breast I felt like I was going to die. Now I can eat a whole, small chicken breast, no problem. (My surgery was almost 5 years ago.)

Seafood was always easier on my tummy, especially early on. (Now because I've grown to love it!)

Here was the food progression I was on in case you didn't get any information:

Can't remember when I first tried red meat again but it was and still is fairly hard for me to digest.
Minced is ok, and I can just about do something like a casserole/stew or if it has some kind of gravy but a plain piece of steak or lamb is a bit of a mission. I certainly can't eat as much as I would if it were chicken or fish. I eat mostly chicken now.

In my opinion you have to try things slowly to determine if your system likes it or not. I am three months post op and have still not tried steak yet. Not sure why because I have tried a lot of other things but for some reason I have stayed away from steak. Just sample a small amount of something and give your system a few minutes to respond. If it doesn't seem to bother it after a few minutes you should be good to eat that and have no issues.

Red meat is very difficult to eat after a sleeve.
It can take up to 4 or 5 months.
So, since you already always ate white meat and fish, I would not push myself to try.
Like North Sleeve said: there are plenty of other things to eat and try out.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Red meat was difficult for me early on as well, even ground beef. I'm 9 months out and still can't eat red meat if it's tough or fatty.

I was probably at month 5 or 6 before I could eat red meat comfortably. I have to stick with either hamburger, sirloin or like filet mignon - cuts that are very tender.

I was cleared for full solids at 4 weeks. I had no issues with red meat. Although I felt fish was much easier as it is naturally softer. I also could eat very, very little when I started on solids. So it did not take much to overeat in the beginning.
