Default Do you need to worry about dehydration forever???

Will this be a permanent concern? I keep a container of water w/ Crystal Light with me at ALL times and I’m always drinking. I get at lease 64 oz. a day. Will I always have to be concerned with dehydration?

Prior to GS I took a blood pressure med that was 10 mg BP med & 12.5 mg diuretic. My GS doc switched me to one with no diuretic.
Alas, the pharmacy didn’t get approval for the refill and I am out of BP med today. It’s Sunday so I can’t do anything about it today.
Should I take one of my old pills that has the diuretic in it and just try to drink more?
My last pill was 24 hours ago. Just checked and my blood pressure is 119/81.

It's a healthy habit to drink 64 ounces of fluid a day, recommended for everyone, but probably not as important as in the beginning when you are healing and dropping pounds quickly. While I don't keep track anymore (I kept a journal in the beginning to be sure I got in all my liquid and protein) I think I still drink that much. Especially in the summer when I'm hiking in the heat!

I can't give you any advice about your meds, maybe there is a nurse on here that could help. I do know my 91 year old mom was severely ill (never seen anyone rushed into the ER as fast as her) with dehydration. She is old, tiny (about 105 pounds) and I know doesn't eat or drink much. Not to mention she moved here and is not used to every day being in the 90's. I never realized how serious dehydration is until going through this. Now after one day in the hospital and 3 days resting at home, she is FINALLY starting to feel better. She still needs a walker to walk until all her strength is back. So yes, drinking your water is important.

It is good for your body to drink water throughout the day. I’m on very strong diaretics because I have CHF and pulmonary hypertension. I don’t think it’s a problem taking your old med if your b/p is high. Better to stay consistent if your body needs it. I wouldn’t worry about that little bit of diabetic. Continue to sip on your fluids. Good news as you loose weight you might not need a b/p med.

Thank you both for your input! It always helps to hear another point of view. I’ll probably always worry about dehydration. I live in South Texas and sweat a lot!
I’ve monitored my BP all day and it has stayed below 120/80 so I’ve been ok. My high blood pressure was caused by my weight so maybe I won’t need the meds forever! That would be awesome! Since I have a 3 month supply of my previous script I hope the doc tells me I can take it.
Thanks again for your help! Y’alls Success is amazing!

Hi! It's always a good idea to drink as much as you an during the day to avoid dehydration. That being said, I'm 9 months out and have not had a problem with dehydration. I don't keep track anymore, but when I'm out in the heat I make sure to have plenty of water with me just in case!

Your BP is in the healthy range. It may be time to discuss with your PCP if you still need BP meds. My father was taken off of his and was told that to continue taking them would be dangerous as it could cause his heartrate to get too low. My PCP was monitoring my BP. I was able to come off of my meds briefly. I did have to go back on but I am on a very low dose. Apparently, I am one of the unlucky ones.

I’m going to make an appointment with my PCP tomorrow. I think I’m on a very low dose now. I’m anxious to get it checked out.
