It's been almost a year, but did anyone ever hear what happened or if she got her money back?
Sorry to hear that. But there's a lady on here that went to dr. AlmanzaNd he found a hernia on her and performed the sleeve close her up and told her about the hernia and she paid him and he went back in the same holes and repaired the hernia. So this sounds odd to me. I don't think he will give you a refund since he did the surgery that he was suppose to do. Good luck.
I had surgery with Dr almanza on July 7th 2012 and have been having similar issues to the op. I have contacted Melissa and heather and they are well aware of complications but no recourse has been offered. Doctors here in Memphis are declining me because I had surgery on Mexico and when I go to the er with dehydration because I can't keep food or liquid down they give me an IV and an anti nausea and send me home. I had an upper gi and the Dr couldn't complete because I started vomiting violently even under anesthesia. So you people who think this is some joke you'd be surprised how many people are going through similar battles. I have been vomiting like this since August 2nd and no bariatric surgeon will take someone e else's screw up
My insurance will not cover the surgery as they consider it cosmetic and I don't have money to return to Mexico. This feels like the end of my life...any words PR suggestions? * yes I am a real person.
Well I have complications myself, still have 2 JP drains and having a stint put in my stomach on 9/20 to hopefully cover the leak and give it a chance to heal. If you can come down here and have insurance my doctor will take you and he is absolutely wonderful! Never judged b/c I had surgery in Mexico. Very caring and very skilled. I can't say enough good things about him and his group. I'm sorry all the doctors there where you live are so narrow minded. How can they not treat someone just b/e of where they had surgery. Don't they get it.......you could get very very sick and die. I just don't understand. I wish you the best of luck and pray you find a doctor to care for you!!!!!

I think it has something to do w/ malpractice, they don't want to take on someone else's work and then be liable for it. Even in the US Drs are picky about who they'll take for revisions.
Don't get me wrong, though, I wish this wasn't the case.
The other part is probably money...US Drs take on a lot of debt and time to become Drs...they need to pay their loans and establish themselves so they don't want potential clients going across the border for half to a third of the price of what they'd charge.
OTOH, medical care is way too expensive in this country. Costs need to come down. Medical tourism is healthy competition, amazing how those who want the market competitive often don't want to include medical tourism...when many companies already outsource their manufacturing/call centers to other countries as a matter of course.
My heart goes out to both of you...has anyone tried the insurance Almanza offers? When I was considering him I asked if I could come back and be treated if I have complications (since it is only a 2 hour plane trip for me) and I was told yes.
Ya, I hadn't heard of his insurance plan either until I had had a 2nd surgery by him and was laying in his "hospital" for 7 days. That's when they decided to say something about it. Aggrivated me. I was fortunate to find a doctor here to care for me and absolutely adore him!!

I also had my sleeve done in mexico with Dr.Almanza. I have herd both good and bad stories from mexico and here in the states. I really feel that anyone can have comlication with this surgry or any other surgry for that matter. I think this post was done respectfuly and with the understanding that with this type of surgry there are risk. I do not feel that just becuse it was done in mexico makes it mmore of a risk. I work with a lady that had her sleeve done here in the U.S. and she was in the hospital for monthes with a feeding tube do to complecations, so it can happen any where. I have not complants from when i had my sleeve done, the only thing I can say is when going to mexico for a surgry one should know it will not be the same as having it done here in the states. I would go back and do it again, I would also tell others it was safe. Again its not for everyone, reserch should be done on the surgry and doctor no matter where you are having it done!! thank you for being mature about your post and not pushing blame, i do feel you should let them know so they can have an idea of what has happend, maybe it can help them change for the better.
