    Question Stoppage...Help

If u will be disgusted don't read please.

I poop very bad and may be 2 times for a week. It's always sooo solid and needs so much strain, i use rectal cream for my .. Sometimes i need to help it with my hand. I'm in a puree session like 2 days, i add some vegetable oil to my egg and eat vegitable puree zucchini etc, still pooping really hard. And it really effects my daily life. I don't go out because i could need to go wc and it makes me sad.
Anybody lived this problems ? I asked to my doctor he gave me "osmolak" which makes u poop well i think, i go more often but still hard, he said drink more water, i'm trying but still couldn't pass 2 liter.. Even if i lost weight it makes me feel unhealthy and sad makes me regret surgery...
    Any advice ? Thanks

This is a very common problem.
    Can you buy stool softeners?
I don't know what brands they sell in Turkey.
    Drink plum juice?
    Puree some kiwi's before breakfast?
What helps me is magnesium tablets or powders.

It will get better once you start to eat more fibers...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I had a big problem at around 6 weeks. I had an impacted bowel. I had to use a fleet enema. I still only go around once a week and I have to eat prunes every day, fruit and I use a laxative. Try drinking prune juice if you can't eat proper solids yet. Take a laxative of you have to. Drink lots as well.Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.

First of all, this will not last. In the beginning your insides are messed up. Drink all the water you can. My doctor recommended Metamucal. (Can't spell that!).

My NUT did say that you are eating about nothing, so you definitely won't "go" like you used to when you were eating about everything.

    Good luck!

A somewhat common and very uncomfortable problem. I still use a stool softener (10 months out). My GP has said it is fine to use every day. However the other suggestions are good too - kiwifruit, prunes etc. I was also recommended to use "Alpine Tea" to get things moving. You can't use it all the time but when required it has the desired effect. Not sure if you are able to get something similar. It is a senna based tea.
    Buchu (Barosma betulina)
    Senna leaf (Cassia angustifolia)*
    Cleavers (Galium aparine)
    Couchgrass (Agropyron repens)
    Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare)
    Ginger root (Zingiber officinale)
    Marshmallow leaf (Althaea officinalis)
    Yarrow flowers (Achillea millefolium)
Each teabag contains: approximately 780mg of Senna leaf.

My surgeon said to expect to poop every second day - once you are cleared to eat all foods.
Please don't ignore the issue. I know how uncomfortable it can be and can lead to other complications if ignored.

YES....I had bad constipation. I suffered from it. So painful. So uncomfortable. Sometimes I swear it was like trying to pass a football. I used stool softeners, enemas, suppositories. The suppositories were the most helpful. Then I was told to try High Potency Magnesium 400 mg softgels. I take one every night and am able to go in the morning with little to no issues. I was told if needed I can take two. Try that. I have been taking them for 2 months and this is the best that my bowels have worked since I was sleeved. Good luck.

My constipation today was HORRIBLE. I'm taking benefiber in water 2x a day. Almost think i should increase that to 3. I have eaten next to nothing for over 3 weeks, but when I do go, i GO.

I may try metamucil too. I'm sure it will get better, but I don't want another day like today ever.

Oh gawd it's awful isn't it.
    MY TRICKS:
Drink prune juice and pear juice.
Take Metamucil fibre (can get in capsule form)
Take Movicol (another stool softener .... good trick with this one, mix 8 sachets into a litre of water and drink over 6 hours. This is what we used to use on the ward for faecal impaction. If that doesn't move it then you need a bomb!)
Laxative teas like kiwi girl mentioned can also be useful but can give you the sudden urge and tummy cramps so good to use when you know you're going to be home.
Magnesium is also useful to some, I have some in powder form but am going to try and find some like Christie uses.
If you are not going and are still constipated you might need to up your doses of things and take them more often. Lots of patients just don't take enough. I know it's tricky as it is sometimes difficult to work out the perfect dose to deal with the problem. Sometimes a day off work to hit it from the night before can be useful.
And last of all everyone should have a jar of prunes soaked in brandy on their kitchen counter. Delicious! I think last time I used whiskey liquor because I didn't have any brandy. Doesn't matter. Just have them :-)
Also if it is terribly awful to go, then do consider if you have a fissure ( a little tear in the anus) if you think it is this then get to your local doc quick sticks as they can really give you some good stuff to help with this. People get beside themselves about bottoms but it is much better to just go see the doc and get help sooner rather than later Hope you are feeling fabulous again soon :-)

I know this is a month old but since it's a fairly common problem I figured I'd chime in.

My Bio Bidet toilet seat has been a lifesaver. It has a turbo mode, in addition to all the normal features, called vortex that sprays a concentrated stream that acts like an enema. It has saved me a lot of pain, and aggravation, and I hghly recommend it. The seats are fairly pricey but I've had mine for several years (from before my surgery) and consider it one of my best purchese's.

I’m in the minority’s I guess. I only was constipated right after the surgery. At first, the chewable iron was stopping things and I had to take a stool softener. I used colace.
Now since transitioning to solids I haven’t had issues. I have been told Metamucil works well. Or benefiber. Good luck!
