Just returned from being sleeved in Mexico with Dr. Almanza. Rest assured, very clean and new facility, professional, courteous, nice staff, never felt danger or unsafe conditions, other patients were supportive and encouraging. I am sure you will do fine. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and follow their guidelines to the letter.
A few hints: Bring the heating pad, try to find Gas X strips, WALK, get the massage if they offer it (20 bucks)

I am scheduled to have my sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Almanza on 9/4/18. I am nervous to go by myself, but I have heard so many success stories that I am confident it will be fine. So far they have been very helpful and supportive.

If you go by yourself, please pack lightly. You cannot tote a lot of luggage. There were many there alone, but I was glad I had someone to help me or just to whine to. The gas and just overall discomfort the first 3 days are no joke. Overall, it was a good experience. You will meet new people and have a great support system.

I will be watching for your reviews after your surgery. I am scheduled for November. What all are you taking with you? What are you buying for at home after the surgery to have easily accessible?

Be sure and take some mylicon with you. I also recommend something loose and comfortable to wear, including comfortable socks that have grippers so you don't slip as you walk around after surgery.
Walking around helps a lot! I found my pain level went down as I walked, increased significantly when I returned to bed UNTIL I took my mylicon. It then resolved within a few minutes.
I'd suggest having some hard candy to suck on for after surgery; you will be provided with jell-o and popsicles, which were surprisingly filling and refreshing.
My roommate brought a Velcro closure abdominal binder, which she said was really good for pain relief; via Amazon Prime, I purchased one after I returned home. While it did feel good when I wore it, I didn't wear it that long, so not sure it was worth the expense.
You will be progressing your diet from clear liquids to full liquids in a few days; still I'd recommend having some popsicles in your freezer and at least a couple favorite Jell-O flavors available for someone to make for you.
You'll be given information regarding having a wound cleanser and bandages available at home; Dr. Almanzo's staff gave us a small packet with the wound cleanser inside. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to consider blue silicon tape to have for your daily dressing changes. It's a little pricey but for sensitive skin, it is the best.

    Hello Everyone!
I so glad to have found this thread of posts! I was wondering what to do and what to bring. Thanks for the tips! I have my surgery coming up in 3/15/19 w/ Dr Almanza. I'm anxious and excited at the same time. I was reading some of the posts where is said that some patients was still hungry after the surgery? Is that true for you all?

Please read Tamara2's posts about this particular doctor. She almost died because the doctor did not review her medical history. He also seems to operate on people with really low BMI's, ones that would never qualify in the states. Do your research and good luck.

You won't be hungry after surgery. You won't be able to eat much at all. I think the whole first year is the 'honeymoon period' where you will drop weight quickly.

I had a great experience with Dr.Almanza in September. I am one of those people that had a low BMI to start. I am so grateful that he did the surgery as I was in the obese side but not morbidly. I didn’t want to wait til I spiraled out of control. My experience at the facility was a very positive one. Very clean and welcoming. I can’t speak to others’ experiences — let me know if you have questions.

Hello! That's great to hear, I was beginning to worry! I just paid my deposit yesterday, so I guess there is no turning back. Did you go by yourself? What would you suggest to bring when going? Anything special to prepare you diet wise for your surgery with Dr. A?

I went with my husband but there were a lot of people there alone. I would take a comfortable clothing, slippers to walk around in the hospital, heating pad, small denominations of cash for tips if you want to.
