I had surgery this am and oh am I feeling the pain. I am hooked up to several machines and trying my best but this is harder than I anticipated. Any advice?
Well tell the nursing staff that you’re in pain- and how much pain -my doctor said he did not skimp on pain medication when needed. Don’t try to be a hero. It will definitely Decrease later. You in the very first stages, it will get better- and congratulations !
Definitely tell a nurse. After my surgery they gave me really great medicine and I honestly didn't feel anything. In fact the medicine made me super sleepy. Make sure you do walk. I was instructed by my surgeon to be walking the same day as the surgery if I could. I think the first 2 weeks are the hardest, you can do this!! I'm 46 days out!
Tell your nurse; don't let the pain get ahead of the meds. And every day you will be better. And soon just an occasional acetaminophen, then nothing. Walking really does ease pain, although its counter intuitive.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Walking will help with the gas pains. Walk around as much as is tolerable. I walked a ton in the hospital and it really helped. The first night was the hardest but it gets easier each and every day. I was given a prescription for a liquid pain med and anti nausea by my surgeon. I only took each a few times the first week and that was it. To get comfortable at night use a heating pad and a body pillow. Keep sipping to make sure you do not get dehydrated. Don't be surprised if you take a lot of catnaps week one. Hang in there.
