Default Your views about anxiety and depression

I'd like to ask questions about anxiety and depression during pregnancy. Is everyone passing through this tough stage? How do you cope with such things? I 'm curious if it needs attention or is this a type of a depressive disorder?

Some women do get depressed in pregnancy and sometimes this is an ongoing issue from before pregnancy. But it is an issue of concern and you do need to talk to your midwife, doctor or health care provider in order to get support. I don't know where you live, but in Australia you would be offered a free amount of counselling sessions, psychotherapy or psychiatric referral and your health care provider who you have a relationship with would know whats best. Do go and talk to your health care provider and hope you are feeling a bit better soon. There should be no shame around this issue and you should be fully supported and looked after. Best wishes.

Hi, I really appreciate your advice and useful information. I came across an online counseling in US. Which is better to consider? An online or a face to face counseling sessions?

Beyond Edie's knowledgeable information, the fact that you are asking is very positive, and possibly indicitive that you need some shoring up right now. Hormones, life changes looming, etc., are unsettling.

I worked in MH, and I would advice face-to-face, with a live person. Body language is an enormous benefit to the counselor/therapist. Be sure that she/he and you have an "end game" for where you want to go.

I personally have MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) and Severe Anxiety Disorder. I have a trusted counselor to whom I can go; I also have a primary care physician who is hyper aware of my issues and how they may manifest. I find for me, after lots of years journaling works well. And lunch with a BFF. That said,, I also take an antidepressant, Viibyrd (in the states).

I also use my daily tools "a loosely written down schedule to accomplish" and of course, my anxiety is highly reduced with my OCD routines.

If you could do a facetime or Skype, it would be a good thing -- body language makes so much difference in diagnosis and treatment. Best to you!

I really appreciate all the information you've given at least I am able to understand anxiety and depression better. But, how do I get and find the best therapist? I only want to be sure. Thanks.

I would recommend starting with your OB/GYN doctor. This can be quite serious and may require more than a therapist. My daughter suffered severe postpartum depression after her third pregnancy. She worked with her doctor for quite a while. She had to resort to some drastic measures, like having to quit breastfeeding so she could get on meds. Now after 16 months everything is fine!

I appreciate your taking time to answer my question. It helps me to see the big picture of depression during pregnancy. I'll consider your recommendation to see a doctor and likewise search for an online therapy.

Just wanna give you an update after I talked to my OB-Gyn. She said it is ok if I would consider online therapy, but she also made a referral if I wanna take face-to-face, and so I did face-to-face just for them to get the proper assessment and diagnosis, and then she told me I can go online whenever I feel needed especially if it's not comfortable for me to take a bus ride to her office.
