    Default Pills So Bitter

I'm having a lot of trouble taking the pills, they are so bitter.
    But I have an idea.

I have vitamins, they are in a little plastic cap and I will take 3 pills a day. The doc said they were ok becasue they melt before they get
    to your stomach.

So what do you think about me pouring out the power in the vitamin pills and refilling them with the pills I will be on for a very long time.
I can crush them to a power and stick them in there. If I did not have such a bad time taking pill I would not do this, but I do. They gag me really bad.

I look forward to getting your advice on this one.

NOOOOOOOOO. Thats nurse advice right there. Don't be messing and crushing powders and what have you!
    I think you're overthinking it :-)
    Just take the pills!
I still sometimes gag a bit with vitamins and even the odd heave!!
    It will get better :-)

No, you're not a chemist. That would just make a mess. Sounds like an "I Love Lucy" episode or something.

I took ProCare Health multivitamins, it was just a tiny little chewable and only one a day.

Not sure what other pills you're talking about, but the doctor may have alternatives if they "gag" you. Or just do it.

Well, I have to crush them up anyway per the doc. I have three pills I have to take, Synthroid, Nausea Med, & Pepcid and sometimes Hydrocodone for pain. they leave a bitter taste in my mouth for hours. I crush them all together anyway and throw them in a liquid to swallolw. The vitamins come after two weeks. Synthroid I take for life, Nausea and Pepcid for a long time and hydrocodone when I can't stand the pain.

    Thank you for your thoughts.

One of the standard instructions from my doc:
For the first couple weeks after surgery in order to take my omeprazole (Prilosec), my doctors instructions were to take a spoonful of sugar free cool whip, open the capsule of omeprazole and sprinkle it onto the cool whip, mix it together a little bit, and then swallow it down in one gulp. It makes taking the medicine extremely easy and no bitter taste. The primary reason for doing this was to avoid having to swallow a large pill while the stomach is still so swollen. IT might sound weird, but it is amazingly easy to swallow.
Please check with your doctor before trying, but perhaps this trick can help you too.

I was told to crush my BP meds for the first month post op. It was nasty. I just took them whole.

Well one good thing is that tiny sipping stage doesn't last very long. Good luck!

Stacey I would have no trouble taking them whole, but my doctor insisted that I crush them up. A little piece got stuck in my throat and lasted for hours.

    Thank you.

I am such a rule follower, so I do what the doctor says. But maybe I can change me. I hate bitter. Whole would be fine.

    Thank You.

Hey, Thanks a lot. I think I might try this. It just might be the answer.
I smash up the pills anyway to powder and put them in water. So what would it hurt to put them in cool whip instead.

Thanks Again, I'm going to do it.

When I asked my Doctor about taking the pills whole instead of grinding them to powder this is what he said.
He had a patient that swallowed a pill whole and it got stuck somewhere in her throat and they had to do surgery to get it out. Maybe that is why he is
so insistent on smashing the pills.

I never crushed any pills. And I took (and still take) thyroid meds. Nothing ever got stuck.

BTW, my doc gave me hydrocodone in liquid form. I took it only twice -- made me feel very weird. So that was enough of that stuff!
