Question Will I have saggy/ excess skin when I do drop the weight?

    Hey,

I'm currently 23 and I've been trying to do research on if I will have any excess skin once I lose the weight. I've been told that because I'm young my skin may bounce back but I don't think it will cause I already have a large amount of floppy skin as bingo wings that I think will just drop down when I start losing the weight... I have no idea but I'm terrified cause I really could not afford to pay out for another surgery.

Does anyone have any experience with this? or knows how to prevent it?

    Em xx

Your age argues in favor of minimal skin issues. Depends also on genetics, your high weight, your early and strong commitment to exercise, and how many times you've lost and gained a lot of weight.

I think those are the major factors ....?

Yeah, what Ann said... age is on your side... you might get some lose skin but it will be better than if you are older. It is also better to be slimmer and healthier rather than getting more obese. I think that even if you lost the weight slower like with a conventional diet ( which none of us are very good at lets face it) you would still end up with whatever lose skin you end up with. Its weighing up whats good for your health, and health is good to have, even with some loose skin. I wish you all the best :-)

You'll never actually know until you lose all your weight. I know you have your age is in your favor! I'm 61 and don't have much saggy skin, and I attribute it to exercise. Going to a party in a sleeveless dress tonight, and I think it looks cute.

I have heard plastic surgeons talk a few times at support group, both said you can have plastic surgery after maintaining your goal weight for a year. That may be an option for you, depending how much you want to lose.

Now just enjoy getting smaller and healthier! Don't worry about something you may not have a problem with.

As people have said, age is on your side but you never know so might be worth starting to save.

I saw a plastic surgeon last Monday, £14,000 to do full circumferential lift, tummy tuck and my chest. People don’t notice it on me but I do, so I figureed what the hell.

I am only 4'11" and have lost 99 lbs. I am 44. My loose skin is minimal. I eat right, exercise, stay hydrated....that all helps. But another thing is it has gotten better with time. I can't complain at all. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

No one can really tell you what your results will be. Do your best to try to do all the things you know will be helpful and hopefully any loose skin you get is minor.

I will tell you that I do have some loose skin. It's noticeable (to me) on the front of my thighs and my bingo wings, and if I suck in my tummy I can tell it's there too. And my breasts look deflated. But I've lost 96 lbs in 9 months. I would much rather have the loose skin than be over 300 lbs again! I'm taking biotin and collagen and trying to use lotion regularly to help.

I just remind myself that the excess skin is where all the unhealthy, unsightly fat used to live, and I'd rather have it vacant than occupied!! A lighter me with excess skin still looks and feels WAY better than the obese me. It's been 16 months and I find that my skin continues to firm up.
