    Default Should I be worried?

Hi again, I am back from my holiday to Greece but I am a little concerned and wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

I noticed yesterday that I had a small bruise just about an inch below where my stomach should be but thought it might be a bruise from my last ever injection that I gave myself to stop my blood clotting.
I got back tonight from the airport and it has now spread and has turned into a large purple bruise, roughly 3 inch wide and 3 inch deep.

Should I be worried, is it normal? it isn't painful and I don't feel unwell. Its close to my largest stitch scar and that still hurts if I press it but the bruise itself doesn't hurt. I am just panicking that my insides have gone wrong somehow, please tell me I have nothing to worry about?!

Nope, stop worrying, that will be from your heparin injection... you bruise more because of the heparin. But even if it isn't that it won't be anything to do with your insides. they tend not to give you a clue on the skin generally ;-) I'd just watch it and go to the doc if worried. As with any advice on here go to the doc if worried, internet Telehealth doesn't always work as you don't often have the whole story etc and cant examine and take a whole history!
    How was the holiday?

The holiday has been fabulous, just what I needed, The husband said seeing as I am recuperating and off work anyway for the first month, we might as well recuperate in the sun, great idea and I wasn't going to argue with him!

I felt towards the end of the holiday that i had somehow put weight on as my stomach looked more swollen but I know i am being ridiculous. I am only eating 400 to 500 calories a day at the moment so I know its all in my head, in saying that though, I am very very excited to weigh myself now I am back as I haven't had access to any scales for 12 days!

However, I do have a tendency to retain water when I go somewhere hot so I am going to wait until Saturday morning so that I don't get a false reading and get annoyed

Thank you for putting my mind at rest about the bruises, if it looks worse in the morning though, I will ring the doctor for their opinion.

Sounds like a fantastic holiday. Probably just what you needed. You're doing so great with your weightless! :-)

    Hi Alisonjayne!

To reiterate what Edie (Stacey03) said, no need to worry. It is simply the bruising caused by your heparin injection.

When I received mine in the hospital, I bruised as if I were being abused by the staff - LOL! Of course I am joking, by my bruises were so severe, and tended to last for quite some time that I questioned the severity of the medication I was being given. Everything turned out fine. I just bruise if you look at me wrong. LOL!

If it is hot I would see the doctor. Hot = infection. Good luck!!! (I'm sure your insides are fine!)

You may want to see if the red area "grows" by tomorrow. If it does, be sure to see your surgeon.

It hasn't grown just changed colour. I think I was worried because it is such a big bruise, thinking back, I didn't inject myself in that area and the areas I did inject have just a very small yellow bruise so yes, it is worrying.

I am keeping an eye on it anyway and it if changes dramatically, I will go see the doctor.

Hi, I hope everthing is fine with you now. In case not, I suggest that if the pain is not tolerable anymore and it continues, you may see a doctor immediately. It's difficult to guess. Just to be sure that there's really nothing to worry about it.

Sounds like a bruise, as they do change color. No worries!

You should see my leg and arm after falling off my bike (4 times). Lovely colored bruises. Soon I will learn how to use clip in bike shoes without falling over. My knees and elbows are all scabbed over, I look like I'm 4 or something.

You also have internal bruising, caused by the surgery.
Sometimes the internal bruises will rise to the surface.
Don't worry, just keep an eye on it.
It is something that happens sometimes.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I take bi weekly injections and sometimes get the same "pool" of a bruise, sometimes just a tiny spot. I do the injections in the same way, different places....but do agree just watch for heat, knots or spreading. Heparin is a more moving type of bruise than what I take. (Repatha)
