Question how can you have enough energy to function?

from reading through people's posts here, i have to wonder how anyone is consuming enough food to have the energy to function? 2 string cheese and a melba toast as a meal?

i'm fearful i won't be able to run my businesses after surgery. thoughts? suggestions?

It'll be fine. Really. That little bit of food lasts only a short time. You'll feel better sooner than you can imagine right now.

    We promise!

I believe that part of the "magic" is that the human body is actually capable of being an incredibly efficient machine.

You will have more energy than before the surgery. The body copes very well. Honestly :-)

I have loads of energy. I also work out. And have been for pretty much my whole journey. The time where I had the least amount of energy was the first few weeks. But take your vitamins, drink your fluids, get your protein in and you will be fine!!

    Amen to that.
But we all thought at some point, that our body really needed of that food...

As long as you're getting plenty of protein, then you'll have more energy than you can imagine. When you cut all the crap from your diet and focus on the essentials, you will be amazed at what your body can do.

I was exhausted the first six months following my surgery. I followed my nutritionists guidelines exactly, never straying from eating what I was supposed to, drinking enough water, and taking my vitamins. For me, I really feel like the inability to consume a lot of calories, made me tired. It did get better after six months out. I'm now 20 months out, and things are much better. I can eat a lot more than I did when I was first sleeved. (Still not a whole lot of food.) I am mindful to eat protein first, then veggies, then a bite or two of a carb, if I want it. My energy levels are much better than they were, I still get tired, but it's a different type of tired. Before I was sleeved, I couldn't walk a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. It's not a problem anymore, which is a wonderful feeling. I do find that at the end of the day, I'm truly tired. I am in bed before 10:00pm most nights. I used to be able to stay up until midnight or later, but can't do that anymore. For me, the trade off has been worth it.

You will have plenty of energy! Meals do get bigger than what you describe.

I exercise daily (I might have a problem) and I still have plenty of energy to play with kids, go to work, work around the house, etc.

    And I really exercise.......

I keep a detailed diary of what I eat, and I definitely have added more carbs to my diet to help with my current training schedule, but I have not yet had any issues where I have "bonked" on long runs or bike rides. Calories in vs. calories out is my key and I pretty much work at a deficit everyday!

    Hope this helps!

Are there "specialty" vitamins - something recommended for those post bariatric surgery?

Just general good vitamins will do. The bariatric ones are probably a money maker ;-)

I take over the counter drugstore vitamins, that are, based on my blood tests twice a year, still the right ones for me.

You will be fine! Basically it goes to show that we eat WAY more food than we really need. In the beginning you can't eat much, so you get your fuel from the protein drinks. Before long you will be starting food. After a few months you will be eating bigger meals, but never as big as before.

I'm almost 5 years out and no one would know I had a sleeve from what I eat. But it's really fun to just push the plate away the moment I'm full. I am the same size I was 4 summers ago!
