I appreciate all the advice about this area of thought. But my doctor said I could not take a pill bigger than a tic-tac, so how do you take these pills.
I have that problem a lot now and I certainly don't want to be constipated after surgery. Someone mention a tea to drink somewhere but I could not find it again.

Christie, thanks for the advise re magnesium. I was actually taking magnesium before surgery for my restless legs. I haven't taken it since surgery and didn't know it acts like a laxative. I have been iron deficient for a while, so I will speak to the dietitian and doctor about taking magnesium again. The ones you recommend have gelatine in, which I cannot have. Do the tablets work as well as the chew-able ones? I have been eating prunes to try and get my tummy to work, doesn't always help though.

That tic-tac thing -- never heard it.

In any event, a stool softener is about that size.

FTR, I was taking a multivitamin pill right after surgery. With no problems.

Re the tea suggestion, could it have been "Smooth Move"?

I too have constipation issues. It made me late for golf yesterday. You are stuck between needing to go and not being able to. I do use a half pkg of Miralax but maybe not often enough as I worry about the opposite happening at inopportune times. As for non dairy protein drinks Juanita, I use Evolve which uses pea protein. I get them at Amazon or Target. The mocha and chocolate are my favorites but they have vanilla and toasted almond. They fit all my docs requirements for protein and calories. I've noticed lately at (today is 3 months PO) I'm starting to crave munchies and crunchies. I really need to stay busy as then I don't even think about it. I'm resisting and luckily still get full easy. I've been adding chopped apple to some things to add some crunch.

Great advice, I will be looking into this soon. I've tried all sorts of things and prunes seem to work best for me, but I don't always remember to eat them...which causes the 'not go' cycle and I end up taking a softener or laxative which is upsetting to my tummy. I've had leg cramps at night too and heard that magnesium will help with that as well. Double whammy

I was told I could take pills a few weeks post op. And honestly, I took my blood pressure medication without crushing it. I could not tolerate the taste of crushing my pills. I take all my meds in pill form.

I was told specifically soft gel due to being sleeved. But speak with your doctor. I am sure you will have more info.

Yes. I know exactly what you mean. I had such a rough time. I wish I knew about the Magnesium earlier.

Yes essentially it is a muscle relaxer but has the added bonus of helping with going. You can google it. I can say it has definitely been beneficial for me.
