Take before pictures and measurements now so you can track your progress when the scale stalls. Remember that the first week is the hardest but it will get easier each day after that. Follow the rules and ask for help/advice whenever you need it. This group is super helpful and supportive. Welcome!!

My best advice is to take this preop time to work on your relationship with food. Surgery will fix your stomach, but not your brain. Learn what full feels like and only eat if you are hungry, stopping when full. Do your best to avoid emotional eating. Cut out/or at least cut back on sugar. I found eating high protein, low carb helpful losing some weight preop and that is what you eat mostly post op as well. Someone else already mentioned measurements; as important as the number on the scale in my opinion. Start tracking food now, it will help you post op and is good accountability....track it all, even that occasional cookie.
Most of all, remember you are human and allow yourself grace. Don't beat yourself up if you slip. Get back on track. I personally don't consider the whole day 'shot' if I eat half a donut. I just make better choices the rest of the day instead of giving up on the whole day.
Welcome and best wishes on your journey.
I'm 4-weeks out and so very glad I made this lifestyle change.

I had surgery at a local hospital in Federal Way, Washington. I love my surgeon and the program. The staff have always been very helpful and encouraging. My insurance covers the procedure.
I've had such a smooth recovery. Been getting my fluids in since day 1, had no problems when I added protein drinks. Puree went well too, no issues with tolerating any foods. I'm on soft foods now and have had a couple things that did not sit well; one was shredded chicken. It was very moist so I thought it would be fine, but I didn't chew it up enough and the texture got me. The other was some pork that I realized as soon as I had swallowed that I didn't chew it well enough. When things don't sit well, for me, it's not a retching kind of thing....it just feels stuck in my throat and feels better when it comes up. I have to say only 2 issues in 4-weeks....I feel like I'm doing really well! I am truly blessed. Down 33 pounds since my surgery date four weeks ago today. I returned to work today and people were stunned, some didn't even recognize me at first glance. It made me feel pretty good!

    Greetings Mmmartinez82!

Welcome to the gastric sleeve community!

I can understand your being nervous. This is procedure is life altering and in many ways life saving. Having gone through it, I can say there is no need to feel nervous. If you have been approved for surgery (and by the looks of you have,) you have already overcome the obstacles. Now it is simply time to reflect, redirect, and refocus your needs on your upcoming surgery. It is all about you right now, and as such, you need to focus on the task at hand. This is not to say that you should shirk everything in the process, because WLS (weight loss surgery) is a balancing act of sorts. It not only involves you, but very much so your friends and family, as you will find over the course of your journey.

Regarding advise: if you could be a little more specific, that would be beneficial. I only say this because there is so much advice to be had, there really should be a starting point. Case in point: are you preparing to enter the full liquids diet pre-op stage? If so, would you like some information regarding this topic?

Let me know. I will be glad to help.

Once again, welcome to the community and have a great week!
