I'm coming up on 1.5 years (Not till August 2, but it's getting closer), and I started my 2018 Triathlon season with a first race of the year last Thursday May 31, 2018.
I ran this couse last year (it's a series of races all summer) and was excited to beat last years time.
Well, it didn't happen..... Totally bummed.
Here's my race report with some pictures. Still can't believe / get over the fact that is me........
I did swim faster, and run faster, but the bike leg didn't go so well. I got a flat tire about 5 miles in (1/2 way point), and lost a good 7 - 8 minutes changing the flat.
Came out of the swim in 8th place (out of 84). Great swim, was in front of the chase pack and cruising. 8:41 for 550 yards.
My bike time had me as the 56th fastest biker (still out of 84). I did catch and pass a lot of the people who passed me while I changed my flat, but the damage was done! 35:33 for 10 miles (horrendous).
My run time had me as the 30th fastest runner (out of 79). I had some cramping issues in my calves for the first 1/4 mile which slowed me a bit, (likely due to my pedaling like a insane madman to make up for the flat tire...) but luckily they went away and I was able to find my stride. 23:55 for 3.1 miles (7:41 pace).
Overall I’m happy, but I just wish I hadn’t gotten that flat. It easily cost me 7 - 8 minutes on the bike (maybe more).
So the final tally:
1:11:00 Total time. Finished 33rd overall out of 79 total.

Coming in to the finish line. I caught and passed the two people that are in front of me here in the first pic.

And for the last photo, cooling off post race in the lake with my daughter. I actually didn't need to cool off, but she would not go in without me. My son refused to be photographed!
Great time! WE CAN DO AMAZING THINGS WITH OUR NEW BODIES!
Bring on Boston (July 22, 2018 Olympic Distance!) and Martha's Vineyard (September 8, 2018 1/2 Ironman Distance!).
Having so much fun it's unbelievable!
Keep at it sleevers!!!!!
