My doctor prefers high-protein pureed foods from Day 3 to Day 14 postop. Oddly, according to the nutritionist, the doctor is not a big fan of yogurt at this stage for some reason.
Any favorite high-protein PUREED food recipes to share?
Thanks!
Boy, the differences in post-op eating plans are bizarre.
Yogurt was a big purée-phase staple for me. If I were you I’d just eat yogurt anyway. The Oikos triple zero vanilla version has 23 grams of protein and only 170 calories. Anyway ...
Puréed black beans or fat-free traditional retried beans with cheddar cheese and (when you can tolerate it) chicken all puréed together and nuked/heated isn’t bad. Also add sour cream to make it smoother. And some salsa. Or even a little mashed avocado. Those ingredients were some of my favorites at that phase. But I didn’t try that for about ten days post-op.
Maybe puréed cottage cheese?
I know from some of your other posts that you want to rush things, but just know that although this may be laparoscopic surgery, it is definitely major surgery. You’ve really got to cooperate with what your brand new sleeve and your whole body are letting you do. You can’t make it do what it’s not ready for. Once you’re newly sleeved, this will become more apparent. Some sleeves heal faster and behave better early on than others. There’s a lot of variation, it seems.
Best to you.

It is funny how every doctor is different. I got my protein from shakes the first 2 weeks after surgery. I didn't start mushy food until week 3.
Thanks Ann and Sraebaer!
Before sitting through the 3-hour class last week at the doctors' office, I was assuming that I'd be on protein water, bone broth and protein shakes for the first week post-op, then maybe yogurt and prueed foods staring week 2. I was really puzzled when the nutritionist mentioned that the doctor is not a big fan of yogurt. The nutritionist said it may be because of how yogurt continues to morph into "liquid cake" calorie wise (but he said to ask the doc).
Next week I meet with the doctor and I will be asking for clarification on yogurt (I love vanilla-no-sugar yogurt) and why he introduces pureed food on day 3 post-op. I also like the Oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt. I'm going to print out the nutritional label and bring it with me to the doctors' visit. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks again!
The Dannon triple zero greek yogurt is what my doc an nutritionist recommended for me. loved it!

When I moved to pureed foods (after 2 weeks post op) I started by throwing high protein soups like Annies into the blender then adding small bits of chicken. I still think some of those soups taste better blended.
Totally agree with Ann. I think some doctors probably don't like yogurt since a lot of yogurt is chock full of sugar but as long as you are eating the Oikos Triple Zero you are good.
Eggs, refried beans, creamed soups made with high protein milk such as Fa!rlife…..
