    Default Sugar after surgery

Just curious. How does everyone handle ice cream after surgery? Can you eat the sugar or does it make you sick. I know that the first couple months the idea is for less than some many grams of sugar. Just wondering how it affects people when you do have it or is it a no no? It’s the holiday and my husband and I just went out for a rare treat ice cream cone so I wondered if I’d ever be able to do that again after my surgery.

Nothing ever made me sick. Luckily I don't really like ice cream. The thing about sugar is the more you have of it, the more you crave it.

After you lose all your weight, sure, you will have an occasional ice cream cone if you want it. But you may find you couldn't care less about ice cream anymore.

I love "Nothing Bundt Cakes" and when they opened one nearby early spring I had a coupon for a free little cake. I got it and ate it all. But I haven't been back since and don't plan to. Once was enough to satisfy me. And I guess realize it was no big deal.

I agree with sraebaer. I loved ice cream with a capital L prior to surgery. I have had small amounts once or twice since and it just doesn't have the same appeal. I guess I have a different mindset now and prefer to get my calories from "Good" food. That is not to say that I won't have an occasional treat, it's just that I don't "have" to have it now. I can take or leave it....and mostly I leave it.

You can eat anything you want after your sleeve heals. That's the good news. And the bad news.

For most people, sugar is a massively powerful trigger food.

    Know yourself. Eat accordingly.

If you do it in moderation it will be fine. If you make it a habit it can derail you. And remember that foods like ice cream you can eat a lot more of without getting full.

My oh My....those are delicious!!! I have a friend who used to live in Southlake TX and they had one there....I am glad I'm not tempted by those since she has moved to CA!! LOL

I'm only 3 weeks post op but did have a mini reese cup a couple days ago. Kinda just wanted to see if I could, not the greatest thinking, I know. I had half of it and chewed it really well. When it was no problem I ended up having the other half. I just looked up that there are 5g sugar in it. I probably won't do it often, but it didn't impact me negatively.

Isn't it funny how that works?
    I have exactly the same.
All those "unhealthy" foods don't taste as good after surgery.
I think I have a totally different mindset now.
    I don't miss them, I don't crave them, I don't really want them.
    Hurray!

As for the question: I don't eat sugar anymore.
It is a trigger food for me and totally addictive.
    I don't miss it.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

yeah, you can eat whatever you want, maybe it will make you sick, maybe it will make you crave more....for me I was an ice cream lover, after I was sleeved I tried it (I think I was a few months out)
I took a few bites, it was nothing like I had remembered. it wasn't good and I
my stomach felt like garbage after eating it.
But I'm almost 3.5 years out and I can eat whatever I want, i only feel sick if I eat too much of something. Just because I can eat it, doesn't mean I should and I have to watch out for calories but you can have an ice cream when your on holiday, or a piece of cake at a birthday....you'll probably only want a bite or two. It's a treat.
    sleeved 12/30/14 @255lbs Goal 140lbs
    3/3/15- 208lbs 6/14/15- 163lbs
    lost 92lbs in 1st 6mo
    9/10/15- 139 1/5/2016 - 128lbs
    lost 128lbs in 1 year
    4/4/16 - 123lbs 7/4/16 - 129lbs 12/3/16- 130
    still 128lb loss@2 year mark-11lbs below goal
gained 13lbs by 3 year mark weighing 142lbs
Gained up to 158 by 3 years 3 months!
    3.5 years back to 142
    hoping to stay between 140lbs-145lbs
4 years hanging in between 145 and 150
5 year mark! ugh! Up to 160! Time to get back track!

I was told dumping syndrome is a result of too much sugar. I spoke with a woman who had the sleeve a few years ago and she stated that she had a frosty from wendy's and was sick for three days.
