Default Any of the sleeve veterans have advice on hair loss?

Would love to hear if anyone has advice on how to decrease hair loss as you go through this process. The multi vit I am taking has 150 mcg of biotin. Is this enough? I used to take a biotin pill before surgery but it's too large to take now.

Also my clinic seems to push the brand Bariatric Fusion so that's what I'm taking b/c it was convenient and they had samples that seemed okay before surgery. I have been taking these chewables 4 times a day. I wish I could have gummies instead as the chewable are kinda gross. Anybody have any gummy recommendations for early sleevers?

    Thanks

I’m kinda in the same situation as you, I had thick hair and it’s drastically thinned but I think it’s subsided. It’s been around 6 weeks since the surgery and I now have lots of short new hairs growing in. I take a multivitamin (when I can tolerate it), biotin 1500mcg, collagen, extra vit D, krill oil. Since I knew this was a side effect from the stress of rapid weight loss, I also starting using coconut or olive oil to help condition my scalp and began using organic shampoo and conditioner. It’ll get better just take care of yourself that includes skin and hair!

I don't think you have much choice except to deal with it. It comes back! I never used all those extra vitamins, and my hair loss wasn't bad at all. I do have thick hair, so maybe I just didn't notice. Small price to pay to be SMALL.

Unfortunately there is no way to prevent or decrease the hair loss. It’s your bodies reaction to the trauma of surgery! It’s not a vitamin or abdorbtion issue. That being said not everyone has huge hair loss. Myself it wasn’t really noticed at all, mine was very mild. Good news is your hair will grow back and there are vitamins for hair growth that can help. Try not to let it bother you to much it’s only temporary and will be worth it when you get your life back. All the best to you.

I agree with others -- the hair loss is temporary and, in most instances, isn't as big a deal as you first may think that it's going to be. That was certainly the case for me. I will note, however, that I have a hella lotta hair. And now I have every bit as much hair as I did pre-op and maybe even more, because I kept taking biotin all this time -- which is also good for skin and nail growth and repair.

As I recall, My hair loss started maybe 4 months post-op and continued until about 9 months post-op.

Same here - my doctor warned me that getting enough protein would help with the hair, so that's been my focus. But I still find more than normal stray hairs when I shower in the morning. I'm on the same Bariatric Fusion vitamins that you're using, the 4 a day horse tablets. You might want to try different flavors - I am using the Orange ones and they are ok, while the other flavor I sampled tasted like chalkboard erasers.

I take Biotin 10,000 mcg 2X a day. It is best to start before you start losing hair. My hair had gotten really thick from taking the pills so when the hair loss started I had extra to spare. I did still lose hair because you cannot prevent it but it does help it grow back in. Also, good nutrition and hydration will help. The thing with hair loss is that it is kind of the gastric Russian Roulette. About 40% of gastric patients will experience it. It varies on how bad it will be. It isn't the end of the world and it will grow back. Good luck.

Thanks, I will try to orange ones, any suggestions are always helpful. I have the tropical flavor. Even though it's hard to take 4 times a day I like that it has the calcium and iron in it and I don't have to take another pill. I think gummies would still be better but one step at a time. It will go on my question list for the next clinic visit. I am only 2 weeks out of surgery and am suppose to be getting 60-80 gms of protein but I'm lucky if I can get to the 60 gm I could see how protein might help w/ hair loss, I'm going to try harder Thanks.

I still haven't had much hair loss at 6.5 months in... maybe I shouldn't speak too soon but maybe it doesn't happen to everyone!! :-)
