    Default Newbie with a question......

I was sleeved on April 26th and could NOT be any happier!!! Pre-op I lost 54 pounds :-) I had zero gas, and fluid intake has been no problem. In fact, at first I wondered if I was sleeved LOL However, now on puree food.....I KNOW I was :-)

Question: I lost 9 pounds immediately post-op....cause I didn't eat for 5 days after only fluids. I am up 2 pounds now of course because my body is trying to catch up. I am not getting enough protein I realize, so when I get my protein level to where it should be daily, will I finally start seeing weight loss????? I'm 2 weeks out and I just feel like I should at least be losing 1-2 pounds a week ????

any suggestions would be wonderful. I don't want to waste my "honeymoon" period!!!

I think the first month is so different for everyone. I lost for the first 3 weeks then came to an absolute stand still for 2, then dropped 8lbs in a few days. Your body is dealing with so much and we all react in different ways, although the 3 week stall (give or take a few days) seems to be very common. Just be sure to get your 64oz of fluids and work toward your protein goal as best as you can. You'll probably lose more than that once your body gets over the initial adjustment. At nearly 6 months I'm losing 1-2lbs/week and I'm a relatively slow loser.

Thank you Dale. That is helpful. I need to really start documenting my fluid intake as well as my protein. I think I might see my problem more clearly.

Fluid intake is super important, especially in the early days. It's easy to miss your goal if you don't set up a regular routine. I'm not sure why (so much of this is a mystery to me) but if I don't drink enough water, I don't lose. When I up my fluid intake I almost always see the scale move again.

Hide your scale. Or have someone else hide it. Your weight just messes with our head, you will lose, I promise! In the beginning your body tries to figure out what's going on, and there is to rhyme or reason to it. So follow the rules, stay off your scale and you'll do great.

Your "honeymoon" time will last for a while, so quit worrying!

Could be your first stall. I hit mine at 2 weeks and freaked out. Thought....oh my God I am going to fail? I didn't. Just follow the rules. There will be ups and downs. Just trust the program.

Yes, hide your scale!! That does more harm than good. Your body is trying to catch up or figure out what’s going here. Once everything settles you will begin to see the pounds drop. That 3rd week dreaded stall is a beast. I thought the same thoughts as I’m not going to be as successful as others. Don’t compare your journey to others but do enjoy your journey. This forum is very encouraging and it allows you to see that you will certainly reach your goals. Everyone here is cheering you on!!!! Make sure to get those fluids in, I have to force myself! Because I’m never thirsty yet along hungry and I’m 8 weeks post op.

Hi Fab 50, it is nice to see someone that is close to my surgery date of 5/2/18. I have decided not to weigh myself until I see the doctor at my 1 1/2 week post op in a few days. It's been fairly easy to resist the temptation only b/c my scale is upstairs and I'm in too much joint pain to go up the stairs right now so I'm living downstairs for the time being. I feel like I have enough emotionally going on that I don't want to deal with the fear of not losing enough weight right now. From what I have read the first month is crazy and varies a lot from day to day and person to person. How long are you told that the "honeymoon phase" lasts? I do know that I have been allowed to have creamy soups along w/ the liquids since discharge and I think I have had too much of them since they are the only thing that tastes good. I am just barely getting my protein in.
