I'm on my way to getting a gastric sleeve, but I have some serious concerns about post-surgery problems.
The thing that scares me the most is "Dumping syndrome". Has anyone experienced it? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Dumping Syndrome is something that happens with gastric bypass, not the sleeve.
Some do struggle after the sleeve with things like nausea, but I never got sick after surgery, so don't worry about something that may not even happen to you!
I am two days post surgery, I had issues yesterday with nausea when they started me on the liquid diet. They did give me medication for it and today I feel like a champ. So it’s really not that bad, at least nothing that would deter me from recommending it to anybody else.
Thank you for your replies! That makes me feel better already!
Yup. Dumping syndrome is a bypass issue.
I had no, zero, zilch issues with nausea after surgery. Only time I ever felt like I was going to be sick was when I ate too much or too quickly. Those are two mistakes I only made once (maybe twice)....
Good luck in your journey! No regrets here! This surgery SAVED MY LIFE!
Yep dumping syndrome is a problem with bypass. Sleeve best decision I ever made and saved my life.
I had some small episodes of nausea and a big episode right after surgery. Nurses got it stoped and my recovery as been smooth sailing. 029F8EFB-F127-4F46-9BA9-CDFD11CA233D.jpeg3A01D198-A2BB-4FCE-A918-44FD99B99C14.jpeg. Good Luck with your journey and hope you can find peace with your decision.
Hi!
I haven't had any issues. Granted, if I eat too quickly or a bit too much, it's extremely uncomfortable. However, in those instances, getting up and walking around helps tremendously with that. But I've never gotten nauseous, never vomited, or had "dumping syndrome". Like the others stated, that happens with bypass.
Good luck!
Worst case scenario I've had in six weeks is something I eat doesn't get along with my stomach, and it comes back up. Sometimes it's just "foam", in more severe cases it's the stomach contents. Sounds icky, definitely not a picnic, but you pretty quickly figure out what what not to eat and how much not to eat. I had a few instances early out but it tapered off dramatically as I've figured things out. Really the major thing to keep in mind is that full portions are small portions now.
Me again-
I'm anxiously awaiting my psyche clearance. I'm worried that, due to my long history of depression, I won't pass, and that would really upset me, because one of the reasons I'm depressed is my weight.
I don't think that having / being depressed is a reason to deny a person the surgery. I believe that as long as you are receiving treatment you will be fine. I also believe that they are really looking for mental health issues that relate to addiction / substance abuse and people with un-realistic expectations. I joked with the person I had to speak to that I wanted to be a ballerina! He got a good laugh out of it.
I would not stress about this. Also, if you are not currently, get some help with your depression. It is a serious condition that you cannot tackle alone! I see someone for PTSD issues and it is / was the best thing I ever did (second maybe to this surgery)!
