    Default Planning & Prepping

Due to our nomadic lifestyle, we travel fulltime in our RV through Europe and Morocco, it so happens I don't see a shop or store for weeks.

    So, how do I manage?
    I thought I'd share.
    Maybe someone is interested...

We love to be in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around us but silence, peace and tranquility.
Sometimes we do that for weeks.
Or, like in Morrroco and other African countries, there are small villages, but they don't sell what I need.

I don't eat meat and hardly ever eat fish.

That can be challenging when on the road.
My way of making this work: I plan and prep.

Most of the time we know roughly, where we are going and for how long.
I make sure I have all the protein powder with me that I need.
I know how much I use per day and just multiply that by, let's say, 180 days.
Whatever happens, I have my shakes.

When we go into the middle of nowhere, I count how many days.
Plus some extra for unexpected events.
Than I sit down and start to make my plan and write everything down.
    What is in my cupboards?
    What is in my fridge?
What do I want to eat for the next weeks to come?

I start writing down meals, based on the proteins I have in storage and whatever is for sale.
I do that for the amount of days I need.
Than I make my grocery list and start buying what I need.

I wash and cut up my fruit and veggies, and cook them the way I want them.
I portion it up, put it in ziplock bags and put them in the fridge or freeze them if I need them much later.
I fill my slow cooker and make a complete meal, that will be good for 3 or 4 dinners.

So, with my planning and prepping I have enough food to last me a couple of weeks.
    Everything I need.

When I hear peolple say: "I can't buy a decent lunch at work", or "I was so busy, I didn't have the time to cook", I say "nonsense".

This surgery of ours is a lifelong commitment.
You can make it work or you can make it fail.
That is up to you and you alone.
You make the choice of what to put in your mouth, no one is force feeding you.

In my opinion: failing to plan, is planning to fail.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

That's amazing! What fun you are having. You're right, the rest of us certainly have no excuses if you can do this. I'm a mile from about 3 grocery stores.

Just curious how you make a living?

We are lucky people indeed, we are retired, sold our house, and bought the RV.
    Making our dream come true.
We always wanted to travel from the day we were married (43 years ago), but life happened...
    Now is our time!

Awesome! We will both be retired at the end of the month, but can't leave for good as my 91 year old mother will be living near us. But we plan on a lot of trips, as she will be taken good care of in her retirement community. We will be married 40 years this summer so close to you. Enjoy!

Most of the time it is, although it also can present itself with its own challenges...

Here we are in the Sahara Desert in Africa.
Not a store for miles and miles.

What a fabulous life you have. I'm so glad that you are doing what you love.
I agree it's all in the planning and prepping. In our house we plan our week's meals ahead so know what to buy at the supermarket.
We prep our breakfast and lunch the night before so it is all ready to go. Even when we are going to be eating out I try and have a look a the menu online so that I know what options are the best for me and I don't panic and make a bad decision. I always have a protein bar with me in case I am not able to get the best food option.

I love that you get to travel and enjoy life! So amazing! Way to go on the planning and prepping. I always make sure I have what I need but not sure I could do it to the extent that you are with planning for such long periods. Amazing!!

Kudos to you, Wow I cant imagine motorhoming in such remote areas let alone managing this new lifestyle. You're a good example. I am 65, widowed, and have my own motorhome that I take trips in over the summer with my dogs. I don't see an issue here in the US, finding food but I have social things coming up that will take some pre planning to success. We all have our limitations. You don't eat meat and I'm allergic to dairy, eggs and wheat. There are ways around it.
