Default Carbonated beverages 6 months + after surgery?

My son is getting married in less than a month. I'd like to be able to enjoy some champagne toasts but I'm wondering if a few sips of champagne will do any harm. I've avoided all carbonated beverages since surgery but I'm thinking I may do a test or two to see what happens. Have any of you had experience with carbonated beverages? I don't plan to start guzzling sodas but will a few sips really do any harm?

That's a question I don't know, for sure. I had wine New Years Eve, about 1/2 of a regular pour restaurant glass -- about 130 non nutritious calories. And the no eat/drink together rule meant I had to wait 30 minutes before or after it. I chose after dinner. And thankfully they let me take it home in a "to go" cup.

But not carbonated. I wonder if it causes pain? Or does something to the staples? I'm guessing one of the long-time success stories will know. But oh my, you are doing so well with your loss! Congratulations!

How exciting that your son is getting married.

I had a 1/2 glass of champagne at New Year with no ill effects.
I really don't fancy alcohol any more - not that I was a big drinker before. I just don't like the taste now.
As Annie says it's empty calories too and I would rather fuel my body with nutritious food these days.

I'm sure it will be a fabulous day whatever you decide to drink for the toasts

Oh it will be fine Dale but do test it out at home first! You may get a little bit tipsy easy. Just a few sips and test at home in case you have a weird reaction!!! Enjoy the wedding whoooo hoooo, I just love weddings :-)

I don't see why you couldn't. At my teaching lesson he said ideally no more alcohol for the rest of my life but if I were to drink try at home first (you will get drunk as heck so quick, i mean 1 sip and you could be getting drug out of the bar by your feet kinds of drunk) He did say though that doesn't mean that if I go to a wedding I couldn't toast, so to air on the safe side maybe talk to your doc

    Dale,

I think you will do fine I tried a bit a function I went to, just a few sips you will be fine, but not with food or you will be uncomfortable. I even tried a bit of soda to see what would happen, not good has to be almost flat, wanna talk about uncomfortable.

    Wedding Blessings!

I would not make it a regular habit but having some champagne will not hurt you. Sip it slow. It may make you burp, though. Just be careful as some people feel buzzed much quicker now. And congrats to your son!

I think the ability to tolerate carbonated beverages varies person to person. For me, carbonation doesn’t agree with me so I don’t drink it. The only way to know is try it.

Dale I think you will be fine, I would do a test run beforehand. Having asked my dr this I was told that the carbonation could bother your stomach. And the other part is that there is a real concern about gastric sleeve patients many of whom have a food addiction switching to an alcohol addiction. Both things make sense to me.
