    Default Move Update

Here's how to lose weight, empty out a house alone where your mom has lived for 61 years. I was worried I would gain weight, but I have never done so much physical labor in probably forever. Not to mention we don't have much food around here. My stress is through the roof, but I'm surviving. Been here (out of state) for two weeks, and in one more week mom and I will be back in my state. She is so sad to be leaving her house, but at 91 with many health issues, there was no other choice but a retirement apartment near me. Currently she is a basket case. Thanks for any prayers that we make this happen!

Gosh I was wondering how you were going. Sounds like you are doing a grand job but I'm sure it's a difficult and emotional experience for both of you. Best wishes for when you get your Mum back to your state and the adjustment period, such a tricky time x

So sorry you're having to go through this. Best wishes for you and your mom to get through it together.

My husband and I will be relocating his mother who is suffering from Glioblatoma brain cancer from Las Vegas to Cleveland next month, and I'm just thankful we only have to do the heavy lifting. His sisters are left with the harder caretaking stuff, unfortunately.

I've been praying for your mom. And for you. It's hard to see our parents struggling with things that we cannot change. It's good you've held your weight steady -- there was a time when I would have packed a box with a bag of Malowmars in my hand.

I'm sure once she settles in with you, and starts making some new memories & connections, she will be a bit more like her self. We are hoping to age in place, so to speak. (My husband will be 71). We were getting ready for a chairlift on the stairs, but then the VSG fixed that need for me. Like all of life, we all have to do the best we can with what's in front of it. You are a wonderful soul, and I know you are living where your feet are!

This is difficult for the both of you.
I'll pray for you and for your mother.

Does this mean you are not going to move?
I thought you were looking for a house in another state?

Moving mom from her state to a retirement home in my state about 10 hours away. She will be about 10 minutes from us. As an only child, it was basically the only solution.

Originally we were thinking of moving as in 2 weeks we will both be retired, but now we promised mom we would stay put for the rest of her life.

I guess both our lives will be turned upside down. Since the kids left the house I've basically lived with "no responsibilities." Went to work, but after that did whatever I wanted. Now it will be many trips to the retirement home. But hubby and I still have many trips planned, and I know during those times she will be well taken care of. Not to mention her place is right on our bike path1

I'm thinking of you, sraebaer, and hoping the transition is completed soon. I know this will be a change for all of you. But it sounds like you've created a very, very good situation for you all.

Of course, more changes are possible, even likely, in your mom's future. But address those changes if and when they come. As a friend says, "don't borrow trouble," i.e., don't worry about things that haven't happened yet and might not.
