I'm just a few days she of 3 weeks post op. Ready to hit the next phase of my diet. Cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, some fruit and veggies, etc. The Mushy diet. Question. Will I be able to eat salad? It was unclear on my sheet.
Hmmm... I don't think salad would be on the list at this point. Monday I can begin the soft food stage where I have to be able to cut it/mash it with a fork like tuna fish. Kinda the mushie food stage. On my list is Beans, Lentils, Legumes, Fish Tofu,Oatmeal. For Vegetables it says "AVOID crunchy, raw vegetables such as carrots and celery sticks. No Seeds and No skins. I would ask your doc just to be sure. Hope you are doing well!
I was cleared for all foods at 6 weeks and I think that's where salad came in. (Too long to actually remember). You need to get a more comprehensive list from your surgeon of what specific foods you can add when.
Three weeks may be a bit early, but I was definitely able to eat salad by my second month - just eat your protein first! I eat way smaller amounts of salad now which I find hard, but it is so important to get the protein in first. What I often do is eat the protein, and part of the salad. Then I pick at the remaining salad over the next hour or so until I finish it, or leave it for dinner time. So I do manage to get a good sized portion of mixed salad in over the course of the day. Good luck!
Get a more comprehensive list from your doctor, but salad didn't hit my mouth for quite awhile. I could have eaten it sooner but my focus then (and still is) getting protein and water / liquid into my system.
Also, the only time my Dr told me mashed potatoes were okay was when my weight dropped too much and he wanted me to stop my weight loss. Mashed potatoes are all carbs and have little nutritional value from a protein based diet standpoint.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
I love arugula and couldn't wait to try some again. Was able to tolerate it around 4mos out but it filled me up so much that then I couldn't eat protein. So now I basically use it as "dessert" after I've finished my protein.
