    Default 2 days post op

I had my surgery on the 10th April. I am now struggling to drink the required water in order to go home. I take a couple of sips of water and then feel like I want to throw up. I also feel so bloated, which is normal. I am having regrets about having the surgery because of this. I know it will get better and on the upside I have lost 2kg. Hoping to improve soon.

It will get better. I had to stay an extra night in the hospital because of nausea. Can they give you anything else to help with that. They had me wear a patch starting the night before, during my hospital stay gave me oral zofran every 8 hours and an injection of Reglan between. I never threw up, but I could not get fluids down without all that. I also did better with watered down apple juice. Plain water made the nausea worse. I am 2 weeks out from surgery and drinking no problem, even with water. Those first few days were ruff. I have lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks, so you have weight loss to look forward to.

    Hi Ellie
I want wondered whether you'd had op because you thought you had chest infection. Glad all went well. I thinks it normal to have regrets during first few days. I'm full of gas !!! But I'm sure this time next week, we'll feel a lot better. Keep glugging the water, little walks every now and then and rest

As stated above, every day will be better than the previous!! Soon, your thoughts of regret will be changed over to thoughts of " Why didn't I do this a long time ago?" You will get there. Trust the process! Listen to your doctors and follow their direction to a T and this too shall pass!

Elllie, it gets easier but it takes time. I agree is an above poster who stated you need anti nausea medicaitons if you aren't on them. Also make sure you only take sips of water. I did one tiny sip, just enough to wet my mouth to start off. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hi Elllie.......Luckily I didn't have nausea, but i spent the night in the ER last night with a fever. Seems if you don't keep taking deep breaths, a portion of your lung can collapse. Who knew?!? Feeling much better today! Good luck!

Hi all, I am in hospital for the 3rd night but I have now managed to up my water intake and drink some milk. It is very slow going but going at least. I am on anti nausea drugs, pain killers, and few other things. Juanita, the physio therapist have been to see me everyday to make sure that I am breathing properly and getting about, so that has helped prevent any problems with the lungs. I am up and about although the stomach does pull where the main wound is. My husband also says I look better with more colour today, so hopefully from now it's all positive.

You can do it! Be sure and let the doc and nursing staff know how you are feeling and see what they can add or take away from your meds to make you feel more comfortable. I started slow with ice chips and worked my way up to protein drinks ...sip...sip...sip while in the hospital. I had to drink all day and night slowly sipping but I eventually got down all of the fluids. Hope you feel better soon!

Elllie, Glad to hear you are improved slightly. Taking sips in the hospital was the hardest for me... Plus I vomited up my meds. It will get better for you and just being home is such a mood booster, it will happen very soon!

You have to get your fluids in or you'll end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Try teeny-tiny sips all day long, even if it's just wetting your mouth continually. No excuses really. It's only been TWO days after major surgery. Sleep as much as you can and sip when you are awake.

You think you will regret being a healthy, regular sized person? Will you regret shopping in regular stores for whatever you want in a little size? Time for that positive attitude to kick in, a little discomfort now is so worth it for an amazing new life. Every day will get better.

Try drinking your fluids at room temp or warm. That helped me a lot in the beginning. I did have nausea. It passed, though. The first week is definitely the hardest.
