    Default I am SO HUNGRY

I started my 2 week diet yesterday, and well to give you a bit of background on how hungry I am. I took a nap yesterday afternoon and woke up (after having a dream about food) CHEWING ON MY TOUNGE. ONLY 13 MORE DAYS!!!

How did everyone get through the 2 week liquid diet?

Are you allowed to put fiber like Metamucil (unsweetened) in your pre-op liquids? I am not at that stage yet.

Either way, good luck! It's super important for you to stick with it... you will have a much healthier and safer experience if you do!

I've always said I think the pre-op diet is the worst part of this whole thing. I was tempted to gnaw on my big juicy arm.

Not sure if you get any solids (I had one meal of lean meat & vegetables) but if so, my dietician told me that if I just couldn't stand it I could have some plain chicken or fish. Just don't cheat with sweets or carbs bc you need to reduce your fatty liver and the carbs & sugar are the worst thing.

Your almost there. It's worth it!

The liquid diet was not that bad for me I just kept drinking plenty of water and drinking 5 Premier Protein shakes a day. My activity level was low so that may have helped. I really pushed the water so I felt full most of the time. I was not allowed any solids. Just remember YOU CAN DO IT! It may not be easy but it is worth it. In a month you will look back and realize how well you did. I did not cheat once although I was sure tempted when I was cooking for my hubby. I'm one that always tastes as I cook to see what I need to add so the hubby just got whatever the end result was. Hang in there it will be over soon.

I am quite lucky as i had a choice of diets for my pre op. I am eating under 800 calories a day and a maximum of 60-80 carbs a day, mostly from fruit and veg. However today I have been particularly hungry but I am on a course of steroids and I think its mad me hungry. perhaps ask your dietitian if you can follow something like this instead of just fluids. I am hoping I have reduced my fatty liver following this diet. I have lost almost 6kg, so here is hoping. good luck.

I am now starting to panic that I have not shrunk my liver enough, as i a seem to be the only person on this forum who has been on a low calorie pre op diet. I track my food everyday and on most days i am under the calorie allowance and under the carb allowance, however i am not sure if have eaten too much fat in the diet. I think it would have been better to be given the liquid diet only, Here is hoping I have done it correctly. I will only know when they take me to surgery if my liver has shrunk enough, so I hope it wont be a case of going to theatre and not being able to have the surgery, I am so worried now. Sorry to hijack this thread, but its the thread that has got me worried.

OK, here's the scoop: One of the blood tests they give you offers some indication of how bad your liver may be. If there were indications that your liver was really bad they would have told you. Even though it's called fatty liver it is mostly caused by sugars and carbs not fats. If you've eliminated most of those, your liver is shrinking so the surgeon will have an easier time doing the surgery. If you're not drinking alcohol or eating bags of candy, you'll probably be fine.

I had to do the pre-op liquid diet for a week. The first few days are the hardest. Do not cave!! You are stronger than you think. When you feel like gnawing off your own arm, reset your focus. Go for a walk if you can. Use a meditation app. Listen to music. ANYTHING to change your focus. Take one day at a time. It isn't easy but it is SO worth it!!
Keep telling yourself that you are stronger than you think!

    Best,
    KPG

I had to do a pre op 2 week shake diet, 3 shakes a day and water. The worst thing about it was the headache at day 3 but heaps of water fixed that. I don't remember feeling massively hungry but I was on a mission! Before you know it you will be in theatre and can look forward to a while new reality! Hang in there :-)

I've got three days left on the pre-op diet and it has been very hard. My husband is munching on cheddar cheese popcorn right now and it smells heavenly. But I am staying strong and have not cheated once. I also had bad sugar withdrawal headaches on days 2-4. My energy seems much better now. I'm keeping busy and trying to keep my mind off of food. Food commercials are the worst though and make me salivate, I quickly change the channel and reach for a shake and or water. I have all 6 flavors of Premier Protein shakes in the fridge for variety of taste. I know for sure it will be all worth it. Hang in there!

I was lucky, only had to do liquids for one week post op. But OMG, it was awful. Was dreaming about meals, specific beef brisket, mexican foods (fajitas in particular) and Sonic Blasts. About all you can do is just keep slogging away, drink all the protein shakes you feel you need to survive (you can totally spike your protein target and stay low in calories with the high protein drinks). By the time the surgery hits, you'll be really happy, you will be down measurably on weight, in better shape for the operation with a nice skinny liver, and afterwards you won't mind not eating for a while when your stomach is healing up. Best wishes, be kind to yourself, it'll pass!

I am on the low calorie diet until 4 days before surgery at which time I go on the liquid diet. I have been doing the Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch then light dinner. Hope I am doing it right as well. I get surgery on the 11th.
