Hi
I am 6 years out from sleeve. Having severe gerd, dysphasia..tortuous esophagus.. Anyone have these issues?
I have it bad too. From what I hear the only fix is to convert to the bypass. I don't have any doctors that seem to care. Just keep taking the protonix. It's not helping. I haven't even looked further into converting to bypass as I'm afraid of my weight dropping further. I don't know what to do about mine, but the throwing up and burning all the time really is a bitch.
No pre-op diet

Have those of you with the acid reflux always had it, or is it something that came along years after the sleeve?
Dysphasia? Really?
(I had to look it up.)

Mine started bad at about 5.5 years. Had several endoscopies (sp?) and they found 3 hernias and several ulcers. Surgeon also told me the only way to get rid of it completely was converting to the full bypass which he won't do because # 1 I can't handle losing any more weight and # 2 I smoke and he knows I won't quit so.... he did repair the hernias last month and that cleared alot of the horrid heartburn up thank goodness.
Well it sounds very uncomfortable to me, and I'm sorry so many of you seem to be dealing with it. I've been fortunate in that respect, although my stress and tension has always been carried somewhere in gastric areas. I've had an almost total colonectomy with reastatemosis about 8 years ago, so my issues seem to be opposite end. Except during my various chemos. Then it was bad.
And toad froth/throwing up when I eat too fast, although I'm finally starting to hear "warning/warning/warning" with a bite or so. I have not eaten much acid like foods (OJ, real lemonade, vinegars, etc.)
I'll be sending prayers for solutions from your doctors and okays from insurance company. Truly hope you feel better.
Me too.. I'm 8 months out. I started to have acid reflux about 5 months before my surgery. Then after the surgery is go really bad. I take a omeprazole / Prilosec one in the morning and once at night. The is the only thing that helps and I can't eat anything at least 1-2 hours before bedtime or it comes back up while I sleep. Also, I can only keep certain things down like ice cream ,corn chips, potoato chips, oatmeal cookies, soup, a few bites of chicken salad. Most things I throw up either right after eating them or I eat them and my body starts making the slimly mucous and then I throw up 30 minutes later (The muscuos and the food)
It's been rough.. I mostly live on Protein shakes, hot tea and soup. I have no problem drinking (thank god) I can drink like I did pre sleeve. (liquid not alcohol)
I still am glad I got the sleeve but would really love to hear hear what people are doing to fix this or at least things they can and can't eat.
Poker -
Also I can't seem to eat anything with tomatos (Pizza ,Marina sauce) and Can't eat most meats, anything grilled also makes my puke.
