    Default Colonoscopy

Hello All - Has anyone had to do a colonoscopy since getting sleeved? I am scheduled for one 4/13 and was wondering how in the world I will be able to drink 32oz of liquid at one time? I have emailed my dr. to ask if there is some other form of getting "cleaned" out for the procedure and what the time limit is each time to get all this liquid down. I'm guessing it will take at least an hour to drink that much liquid.

    Thanks!

sraebaer had a thread about this a couple of weeks ago; if you google in the search for colonoscopy, you'll find it.

Here's a link to talk to your doctor about

I did and it sucked. I would be VERY FIRM about having the sleeve and needing a different prep. I had to drink 64 (SIXTY FOUR!) ounces of Gatorade mixed with an entire bottle of Mirolax, along with some laxative pills, starting at 4 pm. I was basically sick for 12 days. I mean so sick my spring break was ruined.

I'm thinking maybe my stomach rebelled with the sugar in Gatorade. Not sure really, but it was no fun. The actual procedure was fine, it was the before and after that was bad.

I just heard back from my Dr and she said no bueno on anything else. She said to start the prep drink earlier so I have time to get it all down. Now you have me scared out of my mind. This should be fun.

Could have just been a fluke that I got so sick. But I had had them pre-sleeve with no issues at all. Totally TMI, but I had stomach cramping and constipation for about a week, and then a week of continual diarrhea. I will never eat a piece of toast or banana for the rest of my life!! (They told me to follow that BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce and toast). It didn't work.

Mine was tons of Gatorade, and I'm thinking all the sugar in that may have been what threw off my stomach. I didn't realize they had a low sugar option as I had never bought Gatorade before.

I'm thinking it wasn't a bug, as I was at my daughter's with her husband, mine, and the three grandkids and no one else got sick.

Hope you are totally fine, as that's typically the case.

I took magnesium citrate. You can get it at the grocery store. 20 ounces and...uh....it really does work.

My G/I doctor was fully on board with me using that after learning I am sleeved. I’m sure yours will too.

That is good info Tinman. Seems their doctors didn't have any info for a sleeved person.

Hi Guys - Just wanted to give you an update on the procedure - well the day before stuff. My doctor wouldn't budge on drinking the 64oz of pleasantness; just told me to start an hour earlier than the instructions indicated. I did the best I could, but I'm sure I probably only drank between 50-55oz. The colonoscopy did happen and she removed one polyp that will be sent off for biopsy and then told me I still had pus in my colon from my diverticulitis that sent me to the ER on March 5th. So, she put me on another round of antibiotics.

It wasn't too bad; although now I'm concerned that she may want to do another colonoscopy sooner rather than later, since I still had an infection in my colon. IDK, I go back in about 2-3 weeks to get the results. Thanks everyone!
