Yeah, steel cut oats can do that too... not visually appealing when served thus!!!

Grits plain are not very palatable. It is what is put on them that make them good. Soooo... Absolutely try them and decide for yourself. Just make sure there is something you like on them.

    And that's my 2 cents :-)
HAHA, cheese and butter probably also makes things better. I don't think I'm likely to find them in Australia but if I ever come over your way I'm gonna search out the shrimp and grits!

Well turns out you can buy grits from a USA importer in Sydney. $3 a box, cheap as chips! I also found several recipes for the shrimp and grits that specifically mentioned the deveining! Often includes bacon too. So I could try this out on my family, they might be all about it. I think the grandparents downstairs might like it. I might try it out, I will manage a tablespoon I guess :-)

Anything tastes better with cheese, butter, and garlic. Not to mention truffles and wine.

After all, risotto is just white rice with makeup and a push-up bra.

Polenta is the Italian version of grits. It all comes down to the way they are cooked and they both have to be served up hot. From a southern gal living in Jersey!

In Italy we have polenta which is kind of like grits but the consistency and flavor is different. In Italy it is thicker and we eat it with cheese or meats or stews. We also let it firm up overnight and then slice it and either grill it or fry it with some olive oil. It is divine.

I'm all about polenta.. with pumpkin and burnt butter and sage... this probably should only be eaten once a year due to the potential to stuff over your arteries!!!

As a man, I will say that there are damn few problems in this world that can’t be solved with make up and a push up bra.

    Carry on.

With shrimp is how I had the awesome grits on the airplane! I am going to make them that way next time. Australia is on our bucket list. It looks SO beautiful.
