    Default At Home Sleep Study

Hello. I have completed 5/6 visits. It takes at least an hour for me to fall asleep at night and I awake at least three times every night. Well, last night I completed the at home sleep study (ARES). It was the WORST night I have had in years (excluding hayfever season a few years ago). My head felt as like it was in a vice grip. I had to take an 800 mg Ibuprophen. The right nostril stopped up. Nose running. Constantly wiping my nose. I was extremely uncomfortable and do not believe I completed the 6 hours sleep as requested. As soon as the sixth hour hit, the green light went off, I removed the apparatus and fell asleep. I overslept by thirty minutes this morning and I am very tired. I pray I do NOT have to repeat this because my insurance with not approve this study at the facility. If you required a sleep study, please share your experience. Thank you.

I had a sleep study at a clinic, and it was weird and uncomfortable. I didn't have sleep apnea. I just have insomnia! (They had no advice for me at all, just said, wow, you were awake 49 times.)

I am due to have one of those take home sleep studies on Monday night. It's not that my insurance cares, one way or the other, but I can't imagine the take home one being any less cumbersome than doing it at the clinic....

Sraebaer and anglzkissed79, thank you for responding. I have insomnia too. I hoping I fell asleep long enough for something to register. I do not believe I could do that again.

anglzkissed79 wishing you the best on your sleep study!

I have bouts of insomnia too. I usually do the treadmill, take a warm shower and have some mild sedative that I take (prescribed) and I am good.

Fingers crossed that you will not have to do it again. I was fortunate to not be required to have one through my insurance.

My at home sleep study was trivial. I had to wear something around my wrist, over one finger, and one wire to my upper chest.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I hope weight loss will fix that, because I am having a horrible time with the cpap machine. I can't breath when I wear it. I'm going to try again tonight. The first night i lasted a couple of hours. Night 2 was 15 minutes. We'll see how I do tonight.

I don't have a surgery date yet. Worst case should hopefully be early september, so just over 5 months away. I'll try my best to wear this contraption, but I also think if I can't wear it, surgery is only 5 months away so I'm not overly concerned.

Glenn - if you're having trouble getting comfortable, get with your doctor or equipment provider to see if some other mask options might help. There are different types of whole face / nasal masks, nasal pillows, and others. It took me a while to get the right mask, and over time I've changed types. Good to keep up treatment though, side effects of sleep apenia can wreck havoc with your body. Good Luck!

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea 4 years ago. Learning to use the CPAP machine, which mask was best, and what settings worked for me was a huge life adjustment. **BUT - it was the second best thing I ever did for myself. When you are in that bad sleep cycle mode, it affects so many things about your health, including your weight. But more importantly your heart and brain health.

What helped me get through that phase was another website called cpaptalk.com. It is filled with awesome people just like this board, who have been there and done that. They all will offer advice and tips to get your treatment dialed in just right. If you check it out, look for posts by a person going by Pugsy - she's the equivalent of the jedi masters on gastricsleeve.com like Ann2, Christie13, Stacey03, Tinman, AnnieG,and so many others.

The single best thing I have ever done is by far getting the gastric sleeve. I'm just shy of three months post surg, and cannot believe how well this is working. Hopefully one day I can drop the CPAP machine!

Sparkybill, thank you so very much for the information. I believe you'll drop the CPAP sooner than you think.
