    Default Over eating worry

I am just over 4 weeks out from surgery and I keep worrying that I'm over eating even though I know I'm not, is this normal?
My dietician has said to eat a ramakin size portion of food which is very hard to get that small now that I am soft foods but I never eat the whole plate. I use a side plate and usually eat around a third. My weight has slowed to almost stand still so maybe that's why I'm feel I'm eating too much. I have to have 3 meals and 3 snacks, I normally have low fat, high protein greek yogurt with fruit, a triangle of dairy lea cheese (low fat) or a fromage frais which are tiny and are designed to ween babies low in fat and sugar. She told me to include 400mls of milk, I usually have two milky coffees a day as I was light headed and dizzy with no energy. Everything i eat is freshly cooked and I use the 1 cal spray oil if I need oil. Now I'm on soft foods I have eaten mainly fish, with different types of vegetables. I am eating very slowly as the first time I ate lumps they got stuck and I felt awful.

Sounds like you are doing just fine! It's about impossible to overeat 4 weeks after surgery in my opinion. At that stage I was told to count my protein and liquids, that's it.

Don't worry about your weight, in fact stop weighing yourself. We all have stalls, but that doesn't mean to eat less.

I know I need to stop weighing myself, it’s the first thing I do when I get up, I have been measuring myself to. My husband has told me stop weighing every day, it’s become an obsession. Thank you

All that sounds good to me, too.

I think you've hit the "three week stall," which many of us did somewhere between 2-6 weeks post-op. Things will settle out.

It seems to be messing with your head, and that's not good. I made myself only weigh on Mondays during the losing phase. I kept a journal. Most weeks I lost, but a few I gained or stayed the same. I also measured myself every few months, that was fun.

Now that I am maintaining my weight I do weigh daily so there are no surprises. (When I hear of people gaining 40 pounds or so, I wonder, really, didn't you notice?) Of course my weight typically fluctuates a pound or two up or down, but I'm doing good! There is nothing more fun than just being a regular sized person.

Oddly or not, weighing every day when I was losing weight didn't mess with my head. For one thing I was not a fast loser (see my monthly weight losses in my signature block below), so I wasn't expecting to lose a pound a day or other such silliness.

I just needed / wanted to get into the habit (for the long haul) of checking in every day.

But if daily weighing is making you anxious, try weighing once a week. Everyone needs to do what works for THEM.

Thank you for your insight, my husband has hidden the scales, so I'll just weigh myself once a week. I knew there would be stalls so I don't know why I'm so anxious about it. I think once I've hit my goal it will be a good idea as you say sraebaer, i won't get any shocks if I put on a couple pounds. I am so excited about being slimmer I can't wait to buy clothes I couldn't have dreamed of wearing before. It's nice already seeing how big my clothes are getting and fitting into clothes that haven't seen the light of day for a while, it feels like I have a new wardrobe already. I have kept a record of my weight and measurements and taken photos, so it will be good to look back on my progress.

I seriously doubt you are overeating. I know it can feel that way and we worry a lot. When you get to solid foods you will really notice how little you are actually eating.

I'm sorry you've been feeling anxious! But totally hear you. I am very careful to weigh every day (I'm not quite 6 months out). I just want an idea of how food effects me day to day (i.e., if I add salt or have something salty, I consistently change 1.5 lbs up or down). But that's just me and I'm rather OCD to start with.

You sound like you are doing well!
    [I]HW: 240 lbs SW: 199 lbs GW: 140 lbs

    1 MO = 167.0 2 MO = 156.4 3 MO = 148.4 4 MO = 140.6
    5 M) = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0
    1 YR = 122.0 2 YR = 140.00 2.5 YR = 139
Happy with my weight; happy with my size; over-the-moon with my health!

Thank you AnnieG obviously I can’t weigh every day as it messes with my mind but people are saying I look like I’m losing and I’ve gone from a Uk size 22 to 16 do something is happening. Perhaps once I’m maintaining I can weigh every day.
