Default 8 months and 100 lbs later... Lots of PAIN in joints

My surgery was 8 months ago and I have lost 100 lbs. I never expected to have so much "new" pain. My knees and hips (and even shoulder joints- a little) hurt so bad. I had a decent exercise plan before surgery (hiking) and that has not changed or increased, so its not that. I am in my early 40's so dont think its my age. It started after I lost my first 40-50 lbs and has just gotten worse. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know why? Or how to help it? I tried taking Move Free Ultra- so far its not helping. I wonder if there was fat in my joints before that cushioned them, and now there isnt- so it just rubs on itself which causing the friction and pain. I certainly didnt expect THIS... :-/

Oh thats not good. Probs best to speak with your doc it might be entirely unrelated to wls and be something like arthritis. Go see the PCP and good luck.

Really sorry to hear this. And no, that didn't happen to me. My knees (my major joint issues) have gotten so much better.

Yes, go see your bariatrician and an orthopedist and find out what's going on. Do NOT settle for this pain. Find out what's causing it and address it. That's one thing I've learned -- don't sit around wondering WTF is going on. Find out and address it. (I said that already.)

Ask your doctor, that sounds unusual. Most of us feel so much better (with much less pain) after losing weight.

I had issues with my knees and hips after losing weight. I had to take lots of vitamin D. I had to start strength training to build up the muscles in those joints. It was painful for a while. Now I am feeling better. I had to stop running for months and just focus on the strength training. I have started running again and am not having pain anymore. I still take 30,000iu of D3 a day. I also found it unbelievable as I had run races when I was overweight with no issues.

You may want to consider a consult with a physical therapist. I have read that many WLSers, when obese, develop ways of moving to compensate for being abnormally-sized, and never relearn proper movement and stance after losing weight and changing body shape. I was seeing a PT for awhile who specialized in yoga therapy, and it's crazy everything I needed to relearn - even how to breathe again. But after meeting with her, I could definitely see how I have adapted to my weight by walking differently and sitting and laying differently.
