Question Suffering from bad Acid Reflux 4 years out from Sleeve Surgery. Bypass next on the agenda..

OK So here it is almost hitting the 4 year mark I gained 25lbs almost 30 my Surgeon said im still well under and still doing great. But since surgery I ended up what they tell you YOU might get its this horrible acid reflux it wasn't too bad at first but I had it controlled by medication of Dexilant its the only thing that works for me. And was able to keep it under control well I say the last year now its been pretty bad that I pop 2 pills a day just to keep it under control. So I met with my surgeon he was looking at my chart knowing im 4 years out and I had some regain weight but seeing that I live off these pills daily and its gotten worse. We are now in the process of going back to surgery and flipping my sleeve to bypass its 90% success story getting rid of it. My personal opinion I'm kind of scared I don't mind living off my vitamins and all that comes with it but suffering from this horrible acid reflux and these pills its just not what I expected. And literally I have anxiety if run out my pills lol..So im hoping I don't have issues with my insurance with this new outcome its at this point medically necessary. My surgeon said it will eliminate it and will loose weight again. Has anybody gone threw this? The dietician called me depending on my insurance can be 6 month process im ok with that at this point if I have to suffer just 6 more months this nonstop acid burn sensation Im ok with It but not more than the 4 years I been managing! Whos all gotten this done and lost more weight and was success with eliminating the acid reflux?

Oh gosh that sounds unpleasant. I know that if reflux is a big problem then they do sometimes convert to bypass. My surgeon said he did 4 of these last year so it doesn't seem a common problem. its quite a decision to convert to bypass though so I understand that would make you anxious. I hope you come to the best decision for you. Its a tricky one.

Have you had your gallbladder checked?

I am three years out and went from mild reflux to severe reflux and diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus. I see my doctor next month and he won’t be happy because I have put on 25 lbs. I take 40mg of omeprazole daily and if I didn’t I would be bonkers. Hope this works for you. I may have to talk to him about that. Thank you for sharing

I have heard that surgeons suggest conversion to bypass when reflux is bad. Hopefully it works for you.
