I was supposed to do a liquid diet for one day preop, but I had my surgery date wrong somehow. I thought was supposed to do it yesterday, the 6th, but it was actually scheduled for the 5th. I had eaten normally right up til midnight on the fourth. The morning of the 5th I got a call from the surgical center asking where I was. Oops. Because I hadn't eaten since midnight they said to just come in anyway. Surgeon said everything went well and didn't complain about my liver at least. Now I'm on a 2week liquid diet but does include protein shakes. Then 2 weeks pureed. Reading other people's food experiences is quite helpful.

Sugar free Popsicles are great when you have to chew something on the liquid diet!

I was put on optifast 4 times a day present surgery for 2 weeks. Was also allowed 1 cup of veggies. NUT said crunchy stuff eased food cravings. Plus allowed broth and sugar free jello. It was doable but I live alone so didn't have to watch others eat. My niece and nephews cleaned out my freezer and cupboards of anything I was not going to be able to eat. That also helped

I'm dreading the one week liquid diet. Didn't know it was to shrink the liver, so thanks for the info. Not sure if everyone has this listed, but mine has options like no-sugar added applesauce, low sugar yogurt ( I have a brand from Kroger called Carbmaster that seems to fit the description) and even no sugar added fudgesicles. So I'm hoping I don't go too nuts when it comes time for my week. I'm really not looking forward to the first couple days after surgery when I'll be drinking water 1 ounce at a time, that should be a real hoot. At least I'll be in the hospital then.
    Have a good day! Peter

I've seen it posted here a few times, but I'm going to say it again, cus it's worth repeating.
Broth, for me, did wonders on curbing the edge on my hunger.
Though, I totally agree with you, I was 290, and rising, due to my love of food, and the fact I was ALWAYS hungry. Even after a full meal, I'd be starving. So, yeah that liquid diet was rough. All my suggestions are as followed:
Try to cut down on TV. Food ads are EVERYWHERE, and designed to make you want food. So, avoiding that will help with temptation.
If you have a significant other, ask them to not bring food into the house any more than nessecary. I found this made my week far easier, dispite me telling my wife she could bring food home if she pleased.
Broth was a life-savor for me, allowing me to have the taste of my beloved meat.
    Good luck, and stay strong!
