Default 3 years, need some tips

Hi, I had my surgery 3 years ago, lost 80lbs, all going well. Since December I feel myself slipping a bit, have gained 10 lbs, starting to feel ashamed that I'm slipping, craving sweets, scared I'm going to gain it all back. Anyone have any advice or tips on how I can stop this sliding, lose those 10 lbs, and get back on track? (As I write this, I realize I know the answers, but would love to hear from others too.) Thank you!

Fill up on protein and veggies first. I am not as far out as you but that is my advice. Avoid the slider foods. Do you exercise? Do you track your foods? I was never a tracker but have started to track mine in the past month as I want to ensure I am successful in maintenance. I am sure Sraerbaer and Ann2 will chime in as they are maintenance rock stars!

Why don’t you go first? What changes do you think you should make?

You are totally right, Ann! I should go first!

So yesterday, my first step was to weigh myself, which I hadn't done in several months. Getting on the scale and facing the truth was my first step. I then downloaded the app I had used to track my food & count protein/fat/carbs. I charged my fitbit (wearing it now) and re-read the journal I kept for the first six months of my journey. All of this was to get my head back in the game & give me the tools I needed to be successful.

Now, for the food. Though I do eat primarily protein, I have to recognize that I've been eating more carbs & sugar than I did the first year after surgery. Today I'll have greek yogurt & fruit for breakfast, protein shake for snack, hard boiled eggs for snack, cheese stick, homemade low salt chicken noodle soup for lunch, and then sushi minus rice for dinner, and a protein bar for evening snack. That'll be 1280 calories -- 35% protein and 27% carbs. I think that's too low for protein %, should be higher. Any other thoughts/tips? Thank you so much.

Hi, thanks for your response. I agree about protein and veggies first (I'm good about protein, not so much about veggies.) I don't really get into trouble with slider goods. I started tracking my food again yesterday, and am wearing my fitbit today, so think those 2 things will help keep me back on track. Thanks so much for your tips!

That is AWE! SOME! Fabulous advice. Love it.

If my arithmetic is right (35% of 1280 calories = 448 calories divided by 4.5 calories/gram of protein = 100 calories of protein) that should be plenty for you.

And depending on how much you walk / exercise / move every day, you ought to be able to lose 5-8 pounds a month on that regimen. So call it two months tops to lose your 10 pounds, and you're on your way to the next 10 pounds.

I really do love everything you are implementing in your get-back-on-the-horse program. If I were doing your program (this is just what *I* would need to do!) I'd get everything out of the house that was sugary or snacky or graze-inspiring so it couldn't tempt me when my resistance was low. I'd also drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. Staying hydrated really does help me from feeling hungry, since hunger and thirst are a bit indistinguishable at times. And I'd also religiously take my daily antacid pill, since I use that to keep my (not bad, but still present) GERD at bay because too much stomach acid can mimic hunger).

The good news is that the longer you stay away from sugar and highly processed carbs, the less you'll crave them. But you knew that already.

PLEASE stay conected here and let us know how you're doing on this program. Please give a holler out if you have a situation you're having trouble with. I think we all have those from time to time, and sometimes the hive-mind can help.

Thanks so much for the support everyone. Had a good food day yesterday, lots of protein, did 5000 steps, really feeling back on track! Your support and positive energy really helps.

Here's my food plan for today:
Breakfast - milk & protein power shake
Snack - greek yogurt, raspberries, sliced almonds
Lunch - homemade chicken noodle soup
Snack - cheese stick, protein bar
Dinner - scrambled eggs, turkey bacon
    Snack - air popped popcorn

I am new to this but I read that Popcorn is a slider food. I copied below the paragraph from the site I read. I'll let the experts that have already had their sleeve comment to see what their understanding is. I have my sleeve March 27th. You should be so proud of yourself for recognizing you were getting off track and reaching out to get back on track. You have set an excellent example for others. Thank you so much for your honesty and sharing! YOU CAN DO IT!

    Understanding Slider Foods
The most commonly consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free cookies, cakes, and candy. You will notice these slider foods are often salty and cause a dry mouth so they must be ingested with liquid to be palatable. This is how they become slider foods. They are also, most often, void of nutritional value.

Most crackers pretty much suck nutritionally. Read the labels -- any fiber? Any protein? Any whole grains? If not, avoid them. Very few crackers have any of those things. BTW, saltines are just white flour and enough water and chemicals to hold them together.

And if you're not making your protein target every single day, avoid all crackers anyway.

EDIT: Most crackers are no better than -- and some are even worse than -- potato chips and corn chips.

Well this was great as I head into maintenance way ahead of when I thought -- so not totally prepared.

I am not intrigued by crackers, but do love popcorn. I don't do it with liquids, do a single 100 cal serving, and now I'm going to have to rethink this! And probably need to.

I have a hard time eating enough vegetables, although hit my protein goal. And fruit hasn't been much; I was/am diabetic and the sugars still wreak havoc.

These are all such positive, good tips!

HI everyone, just wanted to report back, I'm still on track, feeling great, and so grateful for everyone's support. I have been doing really well packing my breakfast, lunch & snacks for the day, focusing on lots of protein and minimal carbs. One thing I did discover is parmesan crisps -- kind of like crackers but made from cheese. Available at Whole Foods. DELICIOUS, protein, I just have to make sure not to eat too many I'm using the Lose It app to track my food and keep me honest. And guess what? I am sleeping better and my skin looks better too.

    Oh, and down 5 lbs!

Thanks everyone for your support. I really appreciate it.
