    Default new here

    HI everyone,

I am getting my first surgery consult on March 20th. I have been approved for the surgery I am excited and really scared. I came across the community and have read some of the post and have found it very helpful. I am scared of the pain after surgery. I had a hysterctomy a few years ago and it was so painful. I don't want a repeat of this. any comments will be greatly appreciated

Everyone’s pain tolorence is different but The Sleeve surgery was the easiest surgery I ever had. By week two I was walking 5-7miles a day. Good luck

Hello, I have not been sleeved yet my procedure is on the 27th. I would discuss your pain concerns with your doc so the both of you could come up with a plan in the event you have some pain after the procedure. You may feel a little better having a plan in place.

Oh gosh I don't think it would be as painful as a hysterectomy. Plus lots of good drugs but to be honest I only took panadol really, even after surgery :-)

The first week is the hardest. Not gonna lie but it isn't anything compared to a hysterectomy. It is worth the little bit of pain for a few days for the new life you get. It is totally worth it. I wish I would have done it sooner. Good luck!

Please don't stress over it! I've had hysterecomy, double mastectomy, triple bypass, salpingoopherectomy & colectomy. AND this was a "nothing"!

I had a complication with bleeding, they did second surgery same day with transfusions. Even with that, I was up and walking that day, and except for the gas pains (which are alleviated by walking), I felt great.

It is not a complicated surgery; follow all your pre op instructions to the letter, and we are all here to support you through.
But seriously, if my colon surgery was a 10, heart a 7, this was a .5.

Everyone's experience is different, so I can only tell you about mine. I had absolutely no pain at all. I was up and walking several hours after surgery. I know I was very lucky but I also know that I kept reminding myself to have a can do attitude. I also did a lot of visualization prior to my surgery, I believe that was also helpful.

I've had a c-section and knee surgery and I found the sleeve hardly painful at all in comparison. My surgeon used some type of internal pain block and it worked so well that I never used the pain pump or any of the pain meds (just Tylenol) after my first couple hours. Was up and walking 2 hours after surgery and that really helped with the gas pain. (They put gas into your abdominal area in order to do the laparoscopic surgery more easily.) Even that wasn't all that bad once I started moving.

Most surgeons seem to give you a narcotic pain med to use if you need it. Ask your surgeon about what you will have available.

Welcome and congrats on your decision to get sleeved. I had 2 C-sections and I can honestly say that compared to them the sleeve was a breeze. The biggest thing about the sleeve for me was the fatigue the first week post op. But it got easier and easier each day. Overall, it was a very, very easy surgery.

I had pain when I first woke up from he surgery which they got under control very fast and I was good to go from then on with barely any pain. I didn't even need the pain meds they sent me home with. Everyone is different, but this was not a bad surgery at all for me. Best of luck!!
