My doctor also puts patients on gallstone meds for 6 months after surgery. I think it's called Actigall. He specifically mentioned that he does not combine gallbladder removal with VSG.
I did not but I know that some people have issues post op and need to have their gall bladder removed. I think if I was given that choice I would have said yes. So far I have been lucky to not have any issues with my gall bladder. But I think I would be bummed if I had to have another surgery to remove it. So me personally....I would remove it. Just my opinion.
I am on Actigall/ursodiol as well, for six months. Gallbladder removal was not discussed. The NP at my one week post-op visit just asked if I've previously had GB problems, which I haven't, then she wrote the prescription.
I will keep the advice about fatty foods in mind!
First I would want the statistics of how many people actually need their gallbladder out after surgery. I can not believe it is that high if I had my surgery at a Center of Excellence in the states and it was not even mentioned. And even if it's say 20%, that means 80% of use will be fine. No way would I remove an organ in my body if it was not necessary.
