    Default Why no sugar?

Hi all. I am considering surgery. This may be a silly question, but why is sugar so strictly prohibited? Is it the calories or does it make you ill. Would a regular fat free yougurt be permissible? Or is that too much sugar? Thanks!

I had a terrible sweet addiction before surgery. Now anything w sugar makes me feel nauseous. May not last but I’m really hoping it does. Sugar is not good for your liver, brain or butt.

    Plus that it is addictive.
    Sugar is the new cocain.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

High in calories and no nutrients. But an occasional little sugar treat once in a while probably won't hurt your weight loss. (Hasn't mine.)

Your sleeve is small and can only fit so much food in. It might as well be food with a high nutritional value.

For me, getting off sugar has been a key -- and my complexion and osteoarthritis are the best they've been in years.
It is empty calories, addictive and an inflammatory.

And in the words of John Travolta when he played Michael (the archangel) "you can never have too much sugar" was one of my pre sleeve problems.

    Hi there,
While Im just approaching 3 months post op, and not a veteran yet; I find it a bit easier to think of you're sleeve as real estate basically. You have a certain amount of space to do the best you can with. If you fill up on sugary calories, those may taste delicious but they occupy the same real estate as would your energy filled, nutrient dense protein and veggies. At the end of the day, you won't end up meeting your protein needs, which will dampen your weight loss.
Also I have found that I don't crave sugar anymore....and in the times I've had a bit of sugar (someone brought me a coffee the other day, that had cream and sugar in it; I asked for 1 cream only), I had a few sips and my stomach gurgled/flip-flopped/growled, made the biggest fuss I've ever heard! Lesson learned.

Best of luck on your journey

You can have anything in small doses but sugar is definitely nutritionally void. Also, the more sugar you consume the more you crave it. During the weight loss phase you are going to definitely want to avoid it.
