    Default New and recently sleeved

    Hello everyone!!
I was sleeved at Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown Md. my surgeon was Dr Rosenberger and his PA Lindsay. I must say it was the best decision I could have made to have this surgery. I am only a week out, but I am feeling like a new me. My heaviest weight was 277 in July 2017. Day of surgery I weighted 232. My PCP weighted me today at 222.

I am trying to find what works regarding liquids, protein, and the desire to “chew” but not be hungry. Hardest thin is cooking for my family or watching them eat foods I love to eat with them.

I started an antibiotic today due to one incision having a lump under it and is a little warm. My PCP called the weight loss clinic and they agreed to start an antibiotic and follow up with them on Tuesday.

    That’s about it for now.

    Congratulations on your surgery.
I have a protein shake everyday and then try to have meat for lunch and tea. Protein first, vegies and then carbs.
    Plenty of fluids too.
You won't worry at all, making meals for the family because somehow you lose interest on all that lovely food.
It's like breaking up with your best friend. Sad really but the brighter side is the weight loss, lots of energy and
    the new you.
If you go to ticker up top you can put your weights in there.

    Highest weight 247lbs (112kgs)
    1 month. - 224.5lbs (22.5lbs)
    2 month. -211lbs (13lbs)
    3 month - 205lbs (6lbs)
    4 month - 199lbs (6lbs)
    5 month - 194lbs (5lbs)
    6 month- 187lbs (7lbs) 58.5lb loss (26kgs)

I remember when I was in the fluids only stage and I wanted to chew sooooo bad! never realized how much I enjoyed chewing until then.
not gonna lie....I did the chew and spit. I suppose you could try gum, just don't swallow it
it's too bad Willy wonka never was successful with that complete meal in a piece of gum, the one that turned the girl into a blueberry in the movie.
that would be a great wls tool
sounds like you are doing great!! you'll be able to chew soon, congrats on your sleeve!

Dr. Rosenbeger did mine as well. But, I traveled to Harrisburg. The hospital was nice and I'm glad I did this, too.

Justin Rosenberger did an awesome job. Did his PA Lindsey assist? They offered me Harrisburg to get sleeved earlier in Feb, but because I am in Western Md, I wanted to be close to home. Hope you are doing well!!

Congrats on your new sleeve. I know the liquid phase was the hardest. It gets better. Once you start eating solids you won't be able to eat much. As long as you follow the rules you should be ok. Don't eat slider foods or you will just derail yourself. Just make sure you hold yourself accountable. Don't eat when you are not hungry. If that is going to be hard for you...maybe seek therapy/counseling.

Thanks for the response!! I am not worried about eating too much, just miss chewing. I am a creature of habit, I have ate cottage cheese for breakfast with hard boiled egg for almost a year as I knew all nutritional facts with it. So I am trying to make changes with that as well. I work with many mental health professionals daily (so I always have an ear when needed). And being accountable for every crumb of food is important. My mother and sister had bypasses and although both are doing well, my mom, like me writes everything down. My sister on the other hand, forgets some of her daily food (just don’t write it all down). But I am proud of them both. Anyway, thanks for the suppprt and look forward to gaining your knowledge. Congrats on your weight loss!!

It's exciting and annoying -- I missed chewing. I did choose fairly thick foods -- like lovely mashed potatoes (using chicken bone broth to thin it), homemade split pea soup (attached in case you like it). It's easy to make and lasts well in fridge & freezer.

Fat-free refried beans with low fat cheese, again thinned with chicken bone broth (I found it on Amazon).

    Thank goodness its not forever!
