Default Husband is almost two weeks out and still extremely nauseated

My husband has been extremely nauseated since his surgery. It got better for a few days but now it’s so bad we had to leave church this morning so he could throw up. We went to the Dr for his follow up and he’s doing great. He’s taken nausea medication and it doesn’t touch it. I didn’t have nausea at all when I was sleeved so I’m not sure what to tell him to do. Oatmeal seems to do the trick but he usually gets sick again right after. He’s starting to get aggravated and asked me if this was how he was going to feel for the rest of his life. I told him no, that he’s still healing and he should give it some time. Does anyone out there have any tricks to ward off nausea? I’d try anything at this point to get him some help!

I think he needs a surgeon review. It does seem a bit much if the medication doesn't touch it. I'd book him in stat just to check things out. Poor fella, that sounds a bit miserable. Get him to the doc xxx

I told him to go back to the Dr and he refuses. If he keeps throwing up I’m going to make him go to the hospital to get fluids.

It reminds me of those chaps that refuse to come into emergency with chest pain and then drop dead! There might be a fix for this, there might be something wrong. From a medical point of view it would seem a very reasonable presentation. Men are tricky suckers. They either present with something very minor (haemorrhoids come to mind, though they can be awful, but men just lose their minds over them) or they present with a bloody gawd awful problem that should have been seen weeks ago. Then you need to do so much more for them. Tell him he will be doing them a favour by going in now. Really.

Preach on sister! I’m right there with you! I’m trying my hardest to get him to go or at least call our surgeon and leave a message. I think I may sneak around and leave a message on his emergency line and see if he’ll call us back. If not I’ll have to make him go to the ER.

Sorry to hear, but he’s got to do something before he dehydrates. Keep us posted and wishing him well.

He said that it was his metformin that was making him so sick. He didn’t take it and he’s felt better right now than he has for days. I’m thinking since he’s lost 36 that he may not need it anymore. I’m not a doctor by any means but he isn’t sick right now and feels great. To me that’s a Miracle that he’s not nauseated or puking. He said he’s gonna stop taking it for a few days and monitor his blood sugar and see how that does.

Thanks so much! I believe the metformin was causing him to be so sick. He’s actually sleeping and resting now without being sick.

It totally could be that. Check that with a doc to be sure :-)

Completely OT (sorry), but what happened with his beard?

Hey Stacy! Yes the metformin is what was mking him sick. He hasn’t taken itnin sveral days and has THRIVED without being sick a single time. His blood sugar has been in normal range by itself and hasn’t been high once. This morning he weighed himself and he’s lost 40 pounds and it’s been exactlyvtwo weeks since his surgery. He’s under 300 for the first time since his early 20’s and he was so excited! Thanks for checking in on him!

Yeah. A lot of people have to stop taking their obesity related drugs almost immediately post op. I know so many people who have to stop taking BP meds because they actually get too low blood pressure post op. Glad that they figured out what it was. Hopefully now he can continue to heal and get on with living as a sleeved person. And he can always try ginger tea if he does have any more issues with nausea.

    Happy to hear that!
Things are going great here, aside from a terrible stomach flu.
But hey, I loose a ton of weight, so that is a good thing!
