Default Please Help - Stalled in first month & hungry!

Dear Friends - I had the sleeve on 1/29. First week home I weighed about 10lbs more than pre-surgery, and was told this was normal due to IV fluids and swelling, etc. Okay. Lost that. At week three, I was then down to 13.5 lbs less than day of surgery. Cool. But in the last 8 days, I did not lose a single pound. Isn't it way too early to hit a plateau? So far I've been concerning myself with trying to get protein and water in. I know I'm not eating too many carbs. And I've kept a food diary, and haven't even been at 1000 calories (usually more like between 600 and 900). Is this normal? Because I'm thinking I paid a ton of money and went through horrible discomfort and put my husband and famiily through a lot of stress for 14 pounds???

Plus -- the main reason I had the surgery was to get rid of the ghrelin. But I still feel hungry. And, no, it's not "head hunger." I feel my stomach doing contortions to get me to eat.

You have hit the all-too-common 3 week stall. Happens to most of us. Apparently our bodies can only take so much change and then just need to recover. You'll start losing again. And yes, I was hungry after surgery as well. Went through all of those "why didn't it work for me?" questions. Continued to feel that way until I started on solid foods. Yes, I still get hungry now but I get SO full after eating just a little that hunger doesn't come back again for quite awhile. Some days I really struggle to eat enough to make my protein goals and trust me, it is still a shock to me to say "I struggle to eat enough." The first month is a roller coaster. The second month you start to develop some basic info on what works for you and what doesn't. I'm still figuring it out. Read some of the threads on 3 week stall and you'll feel encouraged.

Definitely the first stall. Totally normal. As for your "hunger", it could be acid reflux. Acid reflux can mimic hunger pangs. Try taking a daily medication like Pepcid or the like. I know in the first few months I did feel like I was hungry. I had to eat every 2 hours or so since I could eat so very little. Now I get hungry when I should be hungry but not like before surgery when I was always hungry.

Thank you, DHB, Luna, Stacey, and Christie! The scale is moving a bit again. Whew! But I also came down with a hideous virus. Went in yesterday to see if I had flu -- and was told it's a particularly nasty virus making the rounds. Including horrible muscle pain in my left shoulder (new one for me!). And of course I can't take ibuprofen. Just when I was feeling good post-surgery, now this. My next check-up with surgeon is in 3 days, so hoping that scale matches the home scale. I took time to sort out clothes. I have a bunch of clothes that haven't quite fit me for 3-4 years. I'm hoping they will this week, but I'm afraid to try!
