I'm new!!

Hi-
I'm in the begging phase of the process for the gastric sleeve. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I finally made my husband understand why I'm doing this. First and foremost, for my health. I want to be around for my sons and my grandchildren. At first, he was totally against it, worried that this might be dangerous, but I've explained to him that it's not as invasive a procedure as others are. Wish me luck!

welcome and good luck. I am due to have my a surgery in April. I was thinking about having surgery for quite some time now and in the past my husband wasn't keen on me having it, he thought I should be able to do it on my own and didn't like the risks involved. ( he is a surgeon and so for him the risks are a big thing) However he realized that I was in a terrible place and all the yo yoing on diets wasn't any good either. He now fully supports me and has come with me to all my appointments. I am still nervous and excited at the same time.

It took my husband awhile to feel comfortable with it. I looked up all the stats and showed him that it was less dangerous (by quite a bit!) than having a c-section (which I'd had) and even gall bladder surgery. I also told him that if I kept gaining I'd need knee replacement sooner than later and that in itself was more of a risk. Not to mention all the issues associated with obesity.... When he saw I was very serious about doing the research & weighing the risks he got onboard.

What a gift that you have his support! It will be a great journey for both of you, as you take control of your health and make the most of life. My only regret is not doing it sooner! Welcome to a lovely group of folks.

Husbands can have a hard time understanding. I know my husband told me I didn't need the surgery. He said if I was doing this for him that I didn't need to do it. I told him it was for me. He didn't understand but was supportive. Now he is big into healthy and fitness too and has lost about 40 lbs. It has been an amazing journey for us both. Good luck to you!

Good luck! Have you set a date for surgery yet? Mine is set for March 15, 2018
