    Angry Weight Loss Frustration

I am not losing the weight I thought I would. I can't figure it out but I'm starting to think I'm not eating enough and it's affecting my metabolism. I log every bite I eat on my fit bit account and I am rarely over 800 calories but that's as much as I can eat in a day. I can drink a lot but not eat much and I don't drink liquids 30 min before or after eating. One boiled or scrambled egg fills me up. I eat 1/4 c cottage cheese and that's all I can eat for hours because I'm so full. I cycle min. 45 min per day and a little weight lifting as well as at least 5,000 steps a day just working and doing every day stuff. I've gone 2 weeks with no weight loss and I'm so disappointed. I don't know what the answer is because I am eating as much as I can handle and I have not cheated once. Anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking about asking for a thyroid test.

What does a day of eating look like?
I don't think you need to be eating that much only 2 months out. We all experience stalls at different times (except for the 3 week stall, everyone seems to hit that). Make sure you are hitting your protein goal. For me I remind myself that the point of having surgery is not eat less. I never once in the last year thought I am not eating enough. Sometimes it was 800 calories and sometimes 300. I only ever worry about protein and I still don't really have carbs other than some veggies.

Based on your exercise habits you may be eating too little. How much protein are you eating? But based on saying you haven't lost in 2 weeks I think you are just in your first stall. Just keep following the rules and you will lose. You are only 2 months out. It is not an instant, overnight magic wand. Most people take 9+ months to get to their goal. Some can take up to 2 years. With your goal I would think between 9-12 months you will hit goal.

It’s not how much you are eating, it’s what you are eating. I would like to invite you to go to my profile page and go over my old posts. Lots of rants and drivel in there along with solid info that pertains directly to you and your condition.

Pay special attention to tinman’s mantra.

It starts, “You are not on a diet. Since you’re not on a diet you can’t be failing at a diet”.......

If you want or need some help, pm me. I’m always glad to help.

Thank you for your reply. I am good about making sure I get at least 60g of protein but most of the time 80g. I only eat protein(eggs, cottage cheese, low fat string cheese and chicken maybe once a week) and greens. Usually broccoli soup I make with nothing more than chicken broth, and broccoli or Edamame for veggies/fiber. At the end of the day if I haven't eaten enough protein, I will drink a premier protein drink to get me to 80g.

Thanks Tinman! I will check out your page now. You are right! We are not on a diet. I guess I am just on a different food plan.

Thank you Christie! I guess I just got discouraged to go that long with no results. I'm trying not to weigh too much. But I was worried I wasn't eating enough for the amount of my activity and exercise. My Doc ordered a swallow test and I do indeed have a strickture and a small hernia so that could explain my inability to consume more solids. I'll see her next week to see what the solution is..

You haven't put up a ticker, but if you weighed 196 pounds just before WLS and you now weigh 172 pounds and you're 2 days shy of 2 months post-op, you've lost 24 pounds. That' more than I'd lost 2 months post-op. And I wound up losing over 100 pounds since my own VSG (3.5 years ago) and have kept it ALL off since then.

Take a look at my monthly weight losses (see in my sig block below). And if you're interested, read my first three surgiversary posts (at the links also posted in my sig block below). My first surgiversary post might be of greatest interest to you right now. BTW, when I was two months out I was also eating 800 cals/day and 80 grams of protein daily. It worked out great for me.

Seriously, it sounds to me that, like Christie said, you're just in a bit of a stall. It happens. Please don't panic. Just do every day what you need to do that day. And breathe! You're not on a diet -- you're gradually building a new lifestyle.

    Consult: 235 lbs
My and doc's preop diet: 216 -19 lbs
    M1 postop 205 -30
    M2 193 -42

    M4 174 -61

Thank you Ann! Having gone from 3,000-4,000 calories a day to 800-1,000, I thought it would just be melting off. I love your posts. Very inspiring! I am going to stop worrying about the scale. I know I'm doing everything right and it will happen. Thanks again Ann! You're doing a great job!
