Default First Trip to Grocery Store Post Op - Weirdness

I just finished my post-op stage 1 liquids and went to the store last night so excited to buy grits and a sweet potato. I don't think I've ever looked forward to solid food so much. I was like a little kid at Christmas. lol I'm totally okay with my decision to get sleeved, and completely committed to doing this right and changing my life, so buying my little list of five or so things was completely okay with me.

As I looked around the store it was like having completely new vision. The store even smelled different. Weird. What I saw was a plethora of things that aren't good for anyone, a zillion and one opportunities for poor choice, and a realization that 'no wonder I had such a weight problem'. Honestly, I wasn't even tempted. Maybe I'm in the honeymoon phase, but when I look at all those bad choices I kind of thumb my nose at them and say to myself 'I'm choosing me and my health and happiness over you. Take that!'

I used to get excited every weekend when I would shop for my Monday foods. (I had new foods added every Monday until I was cleared for all foods at 6 weeks.)

And that's still how I feel in a grocery store 4 and a half years later! It makes me feel empowered just walking by the crap that used to make my life miserable. At support group I have a lady who says she cries when she sees food commercials, and I'm thinking "Are you NUTS?!?" I certainly don't cry when I see a KFC commercial, I wonder how people could eat that crap.

I stopped going to support group.

Yes, it's so strange to break up with crappy food. I'm now at the stage where I can buy cookies for my husband and let them sit on the counter without even sneaking one. I've tried a bite or two of sugary food (pre-op I had a major sweet tooth) and my stomach rebels. One of the best things about this new life is not feeling like a food addict anymore.

Shopping is so much faster now even with a 10 year old and a husband. I only hit the produce aisle, proteins, and dairy. That's it, well, except coffee haha. Since my surgery the rest of my family has gone no carb so it makes things really easy.

You will! It's kind of amazing, really. The lower numbers on the scale are just one part of this transformation.

Yes, it’s been much easier to pass by the junk. Just not as interested anymore.

Great attitude! You can only eat a small amount so you have to feed your body the most nutritional foods possible!! Way to go!
