    Unhappy Help not feeling well!

I’ve been getting my fluids in very well even tried some soups
Did very well in the hospital had no problem eating soup and jello.
But today is my 4 th day after surgery and I feel awful. I
Can’t even seem to get the urge to drink uggg! So far I have gotten down
25 ozs of fluid! Is this normal? I took nausea medicine and no help.

You need to get your minimum liquid in or you'll end up back in the hospital with dehydration. The secret is to sip teeny tiny sips all day long, even if you don't have the urge to drink. Water? Herbal tea? Broth? As Nike says, Just do it. I used to keep a daily journal with my protein and liquid ounces to be sure I met each goal. And my protein drinks also counted toward the liquid goal.

Good luck! The first week is the hardest, by week 2 I was already feeling pretty good. The first week I was exhausted and slept when I wasn't sipping.

Tea? Warm broth? Warm water? My suggestion is try warm fluids. I actually always to this day drink warm jello sugar free. Rasberry and lime are my favorite! First week is rough. It does get better. Hugs!

I'm not sure I experienced any urge to drink in the first week or two. I just knew I had to do it. Peppermint tea was soothing so I drank lots of that. Ate sugar free ices. Anything to get the liquids in. You will feel much worse if you don't drink. I lined up little medicine cups and made myself drink those. A little at a time is the way to go.

Oh yes! I forgot about that. I always liked ginger before but ginger tea saved me in those early days. And a GinGin candy still settles my stomach better than Tums.

I could only drink warm liquids for the first month (with the exception of my protein shake). Warm broth, room temp or warm water. I remember my Dr telling me most patients do better with warm early on.

I had better luck with warm fluids. Keep sipping. The first week is the hardest but it will get a little bit easier each day. As Sraerbaer said you have to avoid getting dehydrated.

So happy to hear! And every week will make a huge difference, until you forget about the yucky beginning you experienced. By the time the shorts are in the stores you will be SHOPPING!

I had trouble drinking also and was kept in the hospital for an additional day. I went home for a day and a half and ended up in the ER dehydrated and in need of IV hydration. You really have to force yourself to SIP tiny bits of liquids every 3-5 mins or so. What helped me a lot was mixing my 3 premier protein drinks with my required amount of water. 64 oz (I think) It made them thinner and not so sweet plus it kept the protein flowing in me all day. By day 5 I was feeling human again and had finally gotten the hang of the constant drinking. It will get easier! Best Wishes to you! L.

OOPS. Should have read scrolled down and read your second post. So glad you are feeling better!
