One month into the surgery and struggling. Have only lost 29 lbs
Any suggestions
I’m sorry but 29lbs in a month is very good. Your expectations are unrealistic, You didn’t put the weight on overnight and you wont have it come off overnight either! Congratulations on your success so far.
29 pounds in your first month post-op?!!!! That's amazing!
Check out my monthly weight losses in my signature block below. The most I EVER lost in a single month post-op was 11 pounds, and that was thanks to having had my gall bladder out that month. Yet I went on to lose all my excess weight and have kept it off ever since. (I'm 3.5 years post-op.)
Dude / dudette, you're doing GREAT!

P.S. Yes. We all experienced constipation. There are lots of threads on here about the dreaded post-op constipation, with numerous suggestions. Use the search function at the top of this screen to search for those threads.
People find that different solutions work differently for them, e.g., milk of magnesia, stool softeners, metamucil, even suppositories. And DEFINITELY drink more and more and more water. Don't worry about becoming dependent on those things. Elimination issues eventually straighten out. But it may take a few months.
And don't be afraid to call your surgeon's office and ask about things like this. That's what they're there for.

Glad you shared what really was the issue. The reason you stopped loosing has a lot to do with being constipated and yes some of it maybe the normal stall too but being backed up with stool weighs you done too. As Ann mentioned is very common problem. I have struggled at times with this. I’ll have a period of time were something will work then for some reason it won’t work. I’ve had to do it all, stool softeners, miralax, dolcolax suppositories and or tablets, mom, citrate the stuff they use to clean you out for GI procedures. Enemas. When Nothing was wanting to work my doctor had me do two enemas and it worked. Finally after a year I’m more regular with just stool softeners and a prescription called linzess. Along with drinking lots of water try something until your cleaned out. You may have to try more than one thing to find what works and what works now may not work next time. Try not to get discouraged. If your following your diet and exercising you will move forward sometimes you have to make adjustments like add more protein.
Ann had some good suggestions too. Good luck and your not alone.
Yes, constipation is a real problem / experience. Your lack of weight loss is likely directly tied to that issue. Drink a lot of water. I mean a lot. When I got stopped up, I actually cut some of my protein and food intake and just drank water. I didn't starve myself but I definitely cut it (probably by half). Talked to my Dr and he agreed that was a good idea but told me to not do it for more than a few days. I don't think I lost a pound over that 4 - 5 day period. I finally couldn't take it anymore and went the enema route, that's right, wet and wild! Took a few days, but it worked and I have not had any issues since. Now that I am eating regular, I still focus on protein first, but definitely get a healthy dose of veggies (roughage) every day. I do think that during my worst constipation time that the protein shakes were contributing to my problem.
Hope this helps.
DRINK WATER.............. Shoot for 100oz daily!
You're in a stall. Just keep following the plan and you will start losing again. I suffered 10 months of constipation. I have blogs about it. I took stool softeners every morning and night but still needed to take either 1/3 of an enema or a suppository every few days to produce a BM. It sucked but eventually went away.
