    Default WA State Sleevers??

Hi - are there any PNW/WA State sleevers out there? Looks like there was an old post from years ago with no recent activity.

I am pre-sleeve currently. Waiting for the surgeons office to submit everything for insurance approval. Hoping to schedule for April.

    Would love to share experiences.

Hi Lisa, I live in Washington State. I had the sleeve done 1-24-17. I went to Mexico and it was the best decision. I love my tool. I’m happy to answer any questions. I no longer have diabetes, high blood pressure, severe sleep apnea, off seven medications, no longer need the BiPAP machine and oxygen. 4BA76F35-E814-4CA0-A06D-7488B0816C97.jpeg51DC73CF-0DE4-4F35-ADF5-16932F007FDB.jpegDEFCAA60-9FB1-4F01-BDDD-688AB5AC0D0E.jpegA8BB0F2D-5A8A-4FAB-AC0A-CE16DF01A5AC.jpegMy chronic pain no longer rules me, its reduced significantly with the weight-loss. I now have more energy than I know what to do with. I went from barely able to climb a flight of stairs to now climbing mountains. I’m now living the dream!!

    Wow, Tamera! You look fabulous!

I feel like I've researched it all so well, but my head gets in the way sometimes. I have lived to this point overweight and am starting down a slippery slope with pre-diabetes and slightly elevated BP......my father died at 70 of obesity-related illness including both of those. I haven't been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but snore quite loudly - I'm told! I have crazy ankle pain due to Achilles tendonitis in both ankles. I feel like these all will become non-issues postop.

I "know" that this is the best way to have a positive impact on my future.....then the "what-ifs" overtake me. What if my surgery causes more problems? What if I regain? What if I have a bunch of extra skin hanging? What if I become nutrient deficient? What if I don't lose?

Thank you for the kind words, If your ready to make a change this surgery is for you. Your health will improve and you will feel like a different person. I went from snoring loud with severe sleep apnea. I couldn’t even lay down without wearing my bipap and oxygen. Now completely gone. Im the healthiest Ive ever been. I don’t have loose skin issues. Its very minor. I think all my exercise helped prevent a big problem. I will however need new boobs. Mine our gone and whats left is sagging. However those that had bigger loose shin issues still rather have that then the pounds. If you follow your diet your nutrients will be the best its ever been. The sleeve doesn’t cause absorption problems thats the bypass. I had my vitamins levels checked at 4mos postop and had to stop vitamin B12 my levels were very high. Getting all I need from my diet. You will loose. If your ready to change it is pretty easy to follow. Biggest thing you first have to change is your Brain. Your head will try to get you to eat like the old days. But the sleeve makes it easier to ignor and eat the right thing. Lots of support available and i even went to a counselor and group monthly support groups in the beginning. Don’t let the what if’s stand in your way of Health and Freedom to enjoy life again and truly live your life to the fullest!!!!!!!!

Thank you - very good advice!
I've been doing the "brain training" the last 12-14 mos....learning what full feels like, saying "no" if I'm not hungry or something that's not healthy doesn't even look good (even sometimes when it does look good too!) I've been eating higher protein and low carbs. Cut out added sugar in a big way....everyone blames fast-food for obesity, I say Starbucks plays a role in that with all their syrups!!
Working out consistently is still my nemesis, but I realized last week that if I wear workout clothes to work (I change into scrubs for work) that it "makes" me stop at the gym before I get home and comfy and don't want to go back out. There really is a lot of change that the surgery will not do for you - I realize that, and hope that will add to my success by paying attention to these other things.

My insurance changed some of their requirements at the start of the year, so I'm still about a week away from meeting them so the surgeon's office can start my authorization process. It was disappointing, but I'm trying not to let it get me down.

Best to you in your process too!

So glad you found my advice helpful. You sound like you will be a very good candidate for the Sleeve. It will make what your doing a lot easier. Yes sugar is a huge culprit in our obesity problem and agree Starbucks is a huge problem. Not only from sugary coffees but their scones are a million calories. Lol Please keep me posted. If I can help in any other way or answer anymore questions please let me know. Take Care, Tamera

While I live in NC now, I'm from WA State. You have marvelous healthcare out there compared to the south. And great doctors. I hope you all do well. Still have kids out there (Monroe) & family all over the state.

Hi Lisa, i have cleared for puréed and soft food. I am so happy, i was having a hard time stomaching the protein shakes. I actually found a bunch of really good ones, but after a month i was just done. I am starting to feel better. I had a lot of pain at my main incision site but the is finally getting better.
I have heard good things about St. Frances. I had my surgery at Allenmore, I really like my surgeon and Multicare has a weight loss center, so i can do all my appointments in one office. I wish it was closer, I work for Multicare so my insurance only covers those Drs.
At 25 days I was really nervous. The preop diet at times was hard, but over the experience been good. Good luck.
