Default Any experience with intermittent fasting/only eating during 8 hours?

I've been reading about intermittent fasting (eating only during 8 hours, then not eating for 16). There doesn't seem to be any problem with this if you've been sleeved as long as you make your protein/water input and don't significantly reduce your calories. Have any of you tried this?

Here's what I'm thinking: I don't feel like eating in the morning. Most days I have coffee with some Premier Protein just to get in my protein and to check the breakfast box. At night (after 7pm) I am tempted to eat junk, which is part of why I became obese in the first place. Right now I eat an evening snack of yogurt or almonds but it feels like a slippery slope toward evening snacking that goes on and on. So I'm thinking of shifting to an 11am-7pm eating schedule and seeing how that works. I know I'll be challenged to get in enough calories but I also think I'd like to see how this works for me.

Would love to hear anyone else's experience. In some ways I'm thinking this is what my body wants anyway (since I'm not hungry until around 11am) and having a hard stop in the evening is a good preventative measure.

    Thanks!

I think it's a great idea Dale. I know a few of doctors who do this actually for the health benefits as there is some evidence that suggests it's good for you. I don't know heaps about it but I think there is a fair bit on line. I think it also keeps people from the constant grazing of an evening which is great as we have become a society that constantly snacks. Sounds reasonable to keep your eating to a timeframe as long as you're getting in all the protein etc you need. Give it a go Dale :-)

I've been visiting assisted living facilities for my mom and that's how the old people eat! Breakfast at 8 am and dinner at 4:30 pm. Not for me!

I do agree not to eat when you're not hungry. I'm happy with my coffee and premier protein for breakfast. But I don't eat anything after dinner. Your schedule sounds fine, just skip the junk part! I'm sure people who work nights have different eating schedules than the rest of us.

I tried this for a day but at my stage of the journey it's too hard to get in enough protein in that short window without overstuffing. I'm going to try to cut off after dinner eating but I think I still need the protein drink in the morning just to get in enough protein in the day. May try again when I'm further along....

I agree with sraebaer -- at least for myself. No intermittent fasting for me. I've already got something that works for me, and I'm sticking to it.

I have done intermittant fasting. My recommendation is to WAIT. I used it to get the last 10# off, at which point I was well over a year post op. i would be concerned that you can't get enough protein and veggies in this early post op without having to eat a larger volume at a sitting (which really isn't good for the sleeve). The reason I don't use it now is I figured out that it was triggering anxiety. I am not sure why, but it did. I am thinking to try it again as it has been many years and I don't have nearly the anxiety issues that I did 4-5 years ago.

Having said all that, Intermittant Fasting is not just a weight loss technique, it is really intended to cause other health benefits. I guess the theory is is that you give your organs a break from constantly having to digest and process food. There seems pretty good evidence that it is good for you over the long haul.

I don't limit when I eat, but try to stay within a set number of calories (protein #'s) in a given 24 hour period. If I'm hungry at 9pm and I have calories left for the day, I have a snack (usually my arch-nemesis Peanut Butter). To me, fasting for 16 hours everyday would be agony. My typical daily routine consist of:

    Breakfast 250 - 300 calories
    Lunch 300 - 500 calories
    Snacks 100 - 300 calories
    Dinner 500 - 700 calories

These are rough numbers, but I get by on 1500 - 1800 calories a day, depending on my current exercise routine. If I run a high mileage day than I am on the high side of those numbers. I'm still dropping weight, so I figure I'm good!

It works for me, so I'm sticking to it for now.

I'm not sleeved but I have tried IF with 16/8, 18/6 n 20/4. Lost good. I made sure I exercised during the fasting period. I followed the Hodge Twins they are hilarious and crass but they had good information on IF.

I know Shirl was doing that. Personally it is not for me but for anyone who can do that and meet their requirements I do not see a problem with it!!
