    Default Psychological Eval

I had my evaluation on Monday. I walked out not knowing what to think. Now, I have to go back in 2 weeks. I

I was honest, but ever think there is something about being too honest?

Today, I was proctoring a test and all I could think about was the 'what ifs' and basically ended up in mind meltdown.

    Any advice for this step?

It's going to be a long two weeks.

Hi, you will be fine. We all tend to overthink things and stress. Just think positively.

    Blessings!

Yeah, unless you revealed a chronic chemical dependency or a severe mental health condition (think paranoid schizophrenia) you'll be fine.

Bless your heart! I'm a retired mental health professional (having jumped on my own crazy train at birth). Most people who are reflective at all are okay for surgery changes. You seem like you've done your research, are doing it for the right reasons (health as well as appearance) and you are self-aware since you are concerned.

I have MDD (major depressive disorder), for which I take medication and periodically see a LCSW/counselor; that said, disclosing those things were important in my weight loss approval because I need to stay on the one med that keeps me from crashing. There were no concerns, other than that I not go off it. I am very aware of "feelings' tied to my weight, and while my weight gain was a combination of overmedications, age & comfort eating, I really was not able to stop.

The information you disclose won't mean you are disqualified, unless you are self-medicating. And then they'd be more likely to help you with any issues you have, and get you ready.

Breath in -- and remember to breath out!

I thought the psychological evaluation was one of the highlights of my process of getting approved for a sleeve surgery. My Psychologist was a real professional and thoughtful person. We identified some issues of why I was over eating. She identified the issues of why I wanted the sleeve surgery. She was confident I was having the surgery for the right reasons, health and future well being.

My psychologist had a problem with several of my answers to some of her 400 test questions. She said my answers indicate that I don't trust anyone. I told her that was true, I was a Federal law enforcement special agent for 28 years and dealt with every kind of con man and degenerate who walks this earth. She had a problem that I answered yes if there ever a time I wanted to hit someone. I answered yes because I worked a case on a drug dealer who killed 3 people. I had an informant who ended up being a serial muderer with 10 confirmed murders in a 3 state area. Yes I wanted to hit him after he sent a letter stating he was going to kill me the moment he is released from prison. I'm not too worried, his first parole hearing is in the year 2067.

In all honesty this evaluation will help you learn something about yourself. 99% is good. Somethings you will learn will help with your success in losing weight.

I wouldn't worry about it - if you were crazy, you wouldn't be so self aware. I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors!

I think we all panic about that stupid test. LOL. I'm sure you're fine. I think they just want to make sure that you are doing this for the right reasons and that you are not depressed and think that the sleeve is going to solve all your problems.

I appreciate all the positive words! I just felt that it was not what I was thinking it would be like. No, 'why surgery?" question .

Just be yourself and try not to stress. When I asked my psych who he disqualifies from surgery, he said primarily people with extreme mental illnesses.

I too walked away from my session thinking "Uh-oh". The therapist said to me, "So you're here for weight loss surgery?" and I replied, "Well I am seriously thinking about it." She said "Hmm, you are the first person ever in my practice to say that." I thought maybe she felt I wasn't committed enough to the process, and that I had blown it right there before I even got started. But nope, apparently I "passed" and the rest of the process went smoothly. Don't worry too much. Our minds have a cruel way of playing with us.

Hey there - while I am not happy that it is the case, I don't mind sharing when applicable that I have bipolar disorder. I was cleared with absolutely no problems. If I were to be out of control, not taking medications, that sort of thing, that would be another issue all together. But I work full time, am responsible, and nobody knows unless I tell them that I have the disorder. I have no idea what you discussed, but the first thought that popped into my mind (because it is an issue for me that I am trying to work on) is if you are an emotional or "comfort" eater, maybe he or she just wants to meet with you again to work out some strategies to help with coping?

I am a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist but I have never practiced in the areas of bariatrics or weight loss. I am happy to offer ideas or tips, but please follow your own Nutritionist's advice - she is the expert in the area.

Exactly what my doctor said, if you are on meds for something like depression or bipolar disorder, stay on your meds and you'll be fine!
